The SportExcel System of High Performance

Skiers

Athletes, coaches and teams throughout Canada, the U.S. and even as far as India are using the SportExcel system of high performance which has revolutionized sport.

Our system is based on cutting edge strategies and nothing transforms a team or an athlete as quickly.

From surfers to hockey players, snowboarders to football, this systematic approach to winning gets raves from coaches and athletes alike, no matter what the age, sport or level of sport played.

And the beauty of it is that it happens very quickly without anyone on the team being emotional or having to spill their deepest fears to anyone.

We offer the complete package of strategies that will get athletes, coaches and teams controlling the momentum of the game.

Put SportExcel on your Christmas list this year and accelerate your game in 2011.

You Asked
Q.  You talk about your High Performance System.  What is this system?

A.

A system is an organized and coordinated method; a procedure.  For example, a recipe is a system for producing that perfect cake every time.  And a drug prescription is a system to ensure that the proper dose is dispensed exactly, every time.

The SportExcel High Performance System gives you an organized and coordinated method to achieve the Zone, every game and every minute of every game (or competition).  No matter what issues a coach, athlete or team may face, the SportExcel System incorporates specific strategies (a method) to resolve those issues quickly and thoroughly.

Essentially, the SportExcel System allows coaches, athletes and teams to control the game, rather than letting the game control them.

Coaching

Tip of the Month

When the coach stays in the Zone, his or her athletes do.  We simply need to ask, "Who is leading whom?"

From great movie directors to great business CEOs, we look to our leaders for emotional strength, balance, and skill.  Great leaders are fun to work for, hold us accountable and give us support when we crash.  They can also fire us when we are incompetent.

Coaches are the same.  Athletes look up to and admire them.  In practices and games they are lock, stock and barrel in their emotional control.

Look at any sideline or bench during a game, and the athletes will be in the same posture as the coach.  In the Zone...or slumped over, barely breathing with arms crossed and face contorted with stress and worry.

"Who is leading whom?"  It is always the coach, so decide how you want to do it--in the Zone or not.

Seasons Greetings, Merry Christmas and an early Happy New Year to everyone

As the New Year fast approaches, the following quote exemplifies the vision we have for individuals and teams over the next year.

"The person who figures out how to harness the collective genius of the people in his or her organization is going to blow the competition away."

~ Former Citibank CEO Walter Wriston

At SportExcel, we are dedicated to helping you to become that person in your organization or on your team - whether as a coach or an athlete.  Over our 20 years we have developed a systematic and strategy-based approach to high performance.  Anyone can now develop the "collective genius" in themselves, their athletes or the workplace.  Read more...

Zone Synergy
If I Stay in the Zone, My Athletes Will
Coach in action
What exactly is zone synergy and how does it apply to sport?  Right now in the National Hockey League, there are a number of teams that on paper have it all.

Great coach, great athletes and lots of money-but they are perennial losers.  What is going on here?  How can teams that look good be so bad?  It is all in the synergy-coaches, players, trainers and all the way down to the water boy-they just don't have it.

Synergy is the notion that when two or more people come together, a co-operative effect takes place that is greater than the sum of the individual roles.  Highly productive teams within Microsoft or RIM are an example of this.  The synergy created in such groups is electric, but a single individual is often the catalyst.  And when that person is the catalyst by design rather than chance, I call that process Zone Synergy.

SportExcel Spotlight: Our Athletes in the Zone

Jason Caswell and Richard McBride win Silver in Skeet Shooting at the Commonwealth Games

Jason Caswell in DelhiThe Canadian skeet shooting team of Jason Caswell, an eight-time Canadian champion and two-time Olympian, and Richard McBride, outshot some talented competition from England, Scotland, Australia and India earning a spot on the podium and winning a silver medal in Delhi.

"It feels really good," said Caswell, in his second Commonwealth Games, having competed in Victoria in 1994. "A silver medal was a realistic goal for us, so we're quite happy to have done as well as we did."

Physical conditioning and mental preparation are important factors on the range, where shooters must remain calm and focused on their targets.  Shooting places a premium on precision and control.

Jason has worked with Bob over the past couple of years and enjoys building the Zone in the mental side of the game.  At the World Cup in Brazil recently, he had three flawless rounds and is participating in the SportExcel High Performance Workshop in Edmonton on January 29/30 to further fine-tune his game.

 The Myths of High Performance

Myth # 1:  Learning Curve = Rocky Road

Many training approaches/trainers indicate right at the outset that the student will see diminished performance initially, with greater performance once a new skill is implemented.

It is true that the notion of a learning curve exists, but telling your student that there will be a learning curve has both a risk and a benefit.  The risk is that by saying it you will make it true.  The expression comes to mind, if you believe something to be true or not, you are right.  Read more...
