Did you know that you can help raise funds for Literacy Plus? If you or someone you know has small (or large) amounts of money left on an old BART ticket, you can turn it in to the library or our office. Literacy Plus will then turn in those tickets and BART will make a donation to the program. Each year Literacy Plus receives about $500 from these tickets. That money is then used to support program services. Every ticket counts!

Mystery Novels by Women -  To Sketch a Thief
To Sketch a Thief
Tuesday, October 2 @ 11:30 a.m., Le Paradis Bakery (D St. & Mission)

Author Sharon Pape has created a truly original paranormal cozy mystery series in which the ghosts are as important to solving the mystery as the living.  After a stray dog named Hobo leads former police sketch artist-turned-paranormal private eye Rory McCain back to his owner's corpse, Rory finds herself involved in another homicide case.  She also becomes the new owner of a lovable pooch, which makes her ghostly partner, former old West federal Marshall Zeke, more than a little spooked.

Mostly Literary Fiction - Heartburn

Heartburn

Monday, October 15 @ noon, Peets Coffee (B St. & Mission) &

Wednesday, October 17 @ 6:30 p.m., Main Library

The creator of Sleepless in Seattle reminds us that comedy depends on anguish as surely as a proper gravy depends on flour and butter. Seven months into her pregnancy, Rachel Samstat discovers that her husband is in love with another woman. Because Ephron's irrepressible heroine writes cookbooks for a living, she turns to some of her favorite recipes as a consolation. Savor novelist and screenwriter Nora Ephron's (1941-2012) celebrated novel, based on her failed marriage with journalist Carl Bernstein, of Watergate fame.
