Mostly Literary Fiction - Fahrenheit 451
Note rescheduled date!
Monday, September 17 @ noon, Peets Coffee (B St. & Mission) &
6:30 p.m., Main Library
The internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (1920-2012) is a masterwork of twentieth-century literature. In fireman Guy Montag's world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. Montag's job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life. A series of events eventually leads Montag to question everything he has ever known, and he is introduced to a world seen through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television. Revisit this classic novel in honor of Ray Bradbury's outstanding contribution to modern literature.
