Poetry & Narrative Reading with Featured Poet Judith Offer

Gather to hear participants of Hayward Library's Writers' Group present samples of their work, along with our featured guest Judith Offer, Oakland-based playwright and poet. With over a dozen plays produced, as well as four books of poetry, including Double Crossing, a collection of poems about her local neighborhood, Judith has a devoted audience. Judith's poetry has been published in a number of magazines, and has been broadcast on National Public Radio.

Hayward Fun Events & Festivals
The City of Hayward's Summer Concert Series continues with "Jeff Cree" (Sunny Gunn's Firestorm) on August 24 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall Plaza.
 Monthly movies on the Plaza are shown in partnership with the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District ("HARD"). Bring the entire family and enjoy a free feature film each month through September. Each movie will begin at 8:15 p.m. Refreshments are available for purchase. This month, The Smurfs will be shown on Friday, August 24. The free family-friendly Downtown Street Party will be held on August 16 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Located on B Street from Foothill Blvd. to Watkins Street, it will feature live music, street entertainers, a car show and more. These events are made possible by generous donations from Buffalo Bill's Brewery, Southland Mall, Toyota, HARD, and the City of Hayward.

Non-profit Resource Center
Hayward Public Library has a new Non-Profit Resource Center to educate and support the staff and board members of nonprofit organizations who serve the people of Hayward. The Nonprofit Resource Center provides classes for staff and board members of new existing nonprofits, books on grant writing, nonprofit management, and philanthropy in general, periodicals on philanthropy, access to Foundation Center databases on grantseeking, and consultation with a librarian experienced with Nonprofit needs. Ask at the Information Desk at the Main Library to find out more or contact Trudy.toll@hayward-ca.gov. Watch for our Nonprofit training series coming in October.

Senior Outreach Services 
The Senior Outreach Services program delivers Library materials to homebound seniors either in their homes or at senior living /care facilities in the City of Hayward. Materials are delivered to the individual by a volunteer and then collected one or two weeks later and returned to the Library. Hayward Mural Project Notecards
You've seen them around town, now you can share your appreciation of them; they are the City's renowned murals. A limited supply of collector-quality note cards featuring images of twelve of the City's murals is now available - suitable for framing, sending or sharing. Proceeds directly support the mural arts program and the continued beautification of Hayward. Cost is $20.00 for a box containing a dozen 5" x 7" glossy cards (with textured envelopes). Cards are available for purchase at the library.

A descendant of royalty and one of the largest landowners in Hawaii, Matthew King struggles to deal with his out-of-control daughters, ten-year-old Scottie and seventeen-year-old Alex, as well as his comatose wife, whom they are about to remove from life support.
