Santa Paws Parade
The Santa Paws Parade is back! The parade was great fun last year, and you can feel good about helping to raise approximately $2,000 for animals at the City of Hayward animal shelter! These funds are really important in helping shelter staff improve the lives of animals living in the shelter. Supplies such as toy, treats, medication, and necessary medical attention are paid for using these funds. This year we are hoping to raise even more funds for animal shelter pets.
Participate in the parade, invite your friends and family and even set up your own fundraising page! Get your pet ready! Big and small, all legal pets are invited. Dress them for the holidays, put them on a float or bring them as they are, and have fun in historic Downtown Hayward raising funds for homeless animals!
If you want to volunteer to help with the parade contact:
gloria.ortega@hayward-ca.gov
Proceeds will benefit the City of Hayward's Homeless Animals, and donations and registration fees are tax deductible.
Hayward Shelter Animals Thank You!

Monday, January 9 @ noon, Peets Coffee (B St. & Mission) &
6:30 p.m., Main Library
Mostly Literary Fiction Book Group will resume on January 9. We won't be meeting in December, so we have selected a 499-page book that may keep you occupied for two months: The Hummingbird's Daughter by the prizewinning author Luis Alberto Urrea. The epic historical novel, based on the life of Urrea's real great-aunt Teresita, is a mystical drama of a young woman in late 19th-century Mexico whose healing powers earned her the popular title "Saint of Cabora."
Autobiography - Dewey: The Small-Town Cat who Touched the World
Wednesday, January 18 @ 6:30 p.m, Main Library
The Autobiography Book Group will return on January 18. Join the group for a lively discussion of Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicky Myron led by a new, volunteer leader. This is the story of how a bedraggled orange fur ball became "Dewey Readmore Books," an enchantingly irresistible library mascot capable of bringing international attention to a small midwestern town and melting the heart of even the most curmudgeonly visitor. Myron's beguiling, poignant, and tender tale of survival, loyalty, and love is an unforgettable study in the mysterious and wondrous ways animals, and libraries, enrich humanity.
