Genealogy Searching: More Pieces of the Quilt
quiltWednesday
December 2nd @
6:00 p.m.
Main Library

Local author Anita Wills returns, by popular demand, to offer tips on genealogical research and share her personal quest. The author of Pieces of the Quilt: The Mosaic of an African American Family, Wills traced her relatives back to Revolutionary times, and to South Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Liberia. Her mixed African, white and Indian ancestry made her search a true challenge. Ms. Wills' experience should be helpful to anyone tracking their own heritage.

Mystery & Suspense
No Wind of BlameTuesday, December 1st @ 6:30 - 7:45 p.m., Main Library
Georgette Heyer's novel No Wind of Blame is a wonderful example of a classic British country house mystery.  Written in 1939, it features the superlatively analytical Inspector Hemingway who is confronted by a seemingly impossible murder - no one was near the murder weapon at the time the shot was fired.  Everyone on the scene is suspicious...and then there's the blackmail plot...

Mostly Literary Fiction
Rooftops of Tehran Monday, December 14th @ 6:30-7:45 p.m., Main Library
The debut novel by Bay Area author Mahbod Seraji, Rooftops of Tehran is a story of young love and growing up in 1970s Iran, then headed toward revolution. In a middle-class neighborhood of Tehran, 17-year-old Pasha spends one perfect, stolen summer with his beautiful neighbor, Zari, until he unwittingly guides the Shah's secret police to their target: Zari's intended. The violent consequences awaken Pasha and his friends to the reality ocf life under the rule of a despot, and lead Zari to make a choice from which Pasha may never recover.

Join us at a new alternative time and location. Bring a bag lunch and treat yourself to one of Peet's Coffee & Tea beverages and something sweet to eat. Everyone else-we'll see you at our usual time and place.

Autobiography & Memoir
Look Me in the EyeWednesday, December 16th @ 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Main Library
Ever since he was young, John Robison longed to connect with other people but, by the time he was a teenager, his odd habits - blurting out non sequiturs, avoiding eye contact, dismantling radios, and digging five-foot holes - had earned him the label "social deviant." It was not until he was forty that he was diagnosed with a form of autism called Asperger's syndrome. That understanding transformed the way he saw himself and the world. A born storyteller, Robison has written a moving, darkly funny memoir, Look Me in the Eye, about a life that has taken him from developing exploding guitars for KISS to building a family of his own.
Discussion facilitated by Abbe.Kalos@hayward-ca.gov, 510-881-7941.
