Do you think origami is just paper planes and cranes?  Met a determined group of theoretical scientists and fine artists who have abandoned careers and scoffed at graduate degrees to forge new lives as modern-day paper folders.  Together they reinterpret the world in paper, creating a wild mix of sensibilities towards art, science, creativity and meaning.

Agatha Raisin & the Quiche of DeathTuesday, November 3rd @ 6:30 - 7:45 p.m., Main Library
In the first of a highly entertaining British cozy series set in the Cotswolds, Miss Agatha Raisin, an irrepressible former public relations boss, sets out to ingratiate herself into the village scene by entering in a local quiche-making competition (with a London store-bought quiche!) Unfortunately for her, the Judge not only snubs her entry but falls over dead after a taste, so Agatha sets out to clear herself, stepping on many toes along the way.

The SoloistWednesday, November 18th @ 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Main Library
This month we will be discussing The Soloist by Steve Lopez.  When Steve Lopez saw Nathaniel Ayers playing his heart out on a two-string violin on Los Angeles' skid row, he found it impossible to walk away. Ayers is homeless, paranoid, and deeply troubled, but glimmers of his past musical brilliance are still there.  In the process of trying to save Ayers, Lopez finds that his own life is changing, and his sense of what one man can accomplish in the lives of others begins to expand in new ways.
Discussion facilitated by Abbe.Kalos@hayward-ca.gov, 510-881-7941.
