Auction, Auction, Auction
Donate, Procure, Attend
Celebrate 20 years of Seabury at our Platinum Celebration!
Come to the Grand Ballroom at the Landmark Convention Center on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Tickets are $65 per person. Buy a table of 8 and get a $40 discount. For a very special evening, book a room at the Hotel Murano where we have rooms reserved under Seabury for $139 with shuttle service to the event. If you can't attend the auction this year, you can still participate through volunteer hours, donating and procuring items, encouraging friends to attend and/or buying a wish ticket. For $100 you enter yourself in a drawing for a live auction item of your choice. With only 50 tickets being sold, you have a 1 in 50 chance of winning! You need not be present at the auction to win.
As the auction rolls around every year, I am reminded of what a generous and supportive community Seabury is. It takes a lot of work to put together an event like this, but the many hands and hearts involved make the work a lot lighter and a lot more fun. Thank you to Margaret Jacobsen and Dawn Vitale for their diligence and follow through as the auction chairs. Thank you to Chris Buchanan and Melissa Podeszwa for calling past donors for new donations, Sonja Barteck for working on donations from wineries, Sam Song for pursuing dessert auction items and Laurel Woods for brainstorming and contacting new venues for donations. Thank you to Sue Fredrickson for writing thank you notes. Thank you to Michelle Stewart, Callie Stoker-Graham, Nicole Cooper, Sue Fredrickson, Katy Kennedy and Kamal Brar for stuffing auction invitations and to the 6 other people who volunteered to help. Thank you to the classroom project reps. Thank you to Skyree Sandvik for working on decorations and Lana D'Souza for creating signs. Finally thank you to everyone so far who has turned in a procurement form or helped in any other way.
We have some wonderful items at the auction this year. More than ever, I feel this year's items highlight some of the talents of our community. Here is a sampling: Dine around the World as Seabury families open their homes and share their culinary expertise and cultural heritage through the cooking and eating of authentic traditional food from their family's country of origin. Need a DJ to liven up a social or work event? We have a current parent who can do that! Planning a night out with a loved one and need childcare? Buy 4 hours of babysitting with Halley Griffin. Looking for a family vacation? The Jamaica trip to Half Moon Resort is back, as well as two weeks at the house on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. In addition to these great donations, there is a one week vacation rental at Lake Cushman!
Much has been done to prepare for the auction, however, there is still a lot more to do before that celebratory night on March 6th. Here are some ways to help:
1) We are at 25% of our procurement goal! If you have procurement forms or donations, please get them in by Friday, January 29th of next week. This includes class basket items. We are doing a big data entry and thank you note push at the Auction work party on Saturday, January 30th, so the more forms and items we have, the more productive we can be. Please note that you do not need to cellophane wrap your items.
2) Help to procure or donate: wine or wine related items, restaurant gift cards, hotel rooms in Seattle, and a weekend getaway.
3) Do you collect flower vases from floral arrangements you receive? Margaret Jacobsen would like to borrow clear glass vases under 8 inches tall for the auction centerpieces. If you have a few you can spare for the next 6 weeks, bring them to the media center, but please tape your name to the bottom of the vase so we can return it to you after the auction.
4) Finally we need your help at the Auction Work Parties. They are a lot of fun, and we are doing two. Meet at the Lower School campus on Saturday, January 30th and/or Saturday, February 6th. We will be working from 9am-4pm both days. This first work party will feature a data entry training and data entry, thank you note writing, basket wrapping, sign board making and photographing of items. If you need a refresher or introduction to data entry, this is the place to be.
Thank you again.
