LeavesWhew! October already!

We kicked it off with a wonderful turn out of parents and relatives for Curriculum Night last night.  Thank you to everyone that took the time to come out on a rainy night to visit your child's classroom and hear about the interesting subjects your child will be studying (or is already doing) in the classroom this year.  Our teachers talked about the classroom programs and parents were able to look at the classroom work.  Then Mrs. Wollum finished up the night with an explanation of the Scope and Sequence and Integrated Curriculum at Seabury.  If you were unable to attend Curriculum Night last night and missed hearing her informative lecture, we will be posting the Scope and Sequence handout, plus the Curriculum Map for all grades, on the website next week.  Please watch for the information to be posted at www.seabury.org.  Also, if you have questions about your child's classroom, please contact your child's teacher.  You can visit the classroom blogs at www.myseabury.org.

Don't forget about the Strategic Plan Meeting on Wednesday, October 7th, at 7:00pm, at the lower school campus in the Multipurpose Room.  George Oberhofer, Board of Trustees president, and Sandi Wollum, Head of School, will discuss the Seabury Strategic Plan that the Board of Trustees has approved as the guiding vision for the school.  There will be time for questions and we would love the feedback from parents.

Who are those mysterious group of people that meet once a month and work tirelessly on guiding Seabury School into the future?  Come out and meet them at the "Meet the Board" night on Wednesday, October 21st at the lower school campus.  Usually, this is the night of the monthly board meeting (remember that parents are always welcome for the open meeting each month.)  "Meet the Board" will begin at 7:00p with an introduction by George Oberhofer, Board of Trustees president.  There will be time to ask questions about the Board's participation at Seabury and to mingle with the other board members.  Then stay for the regular monthly meeting at 7:45pm.  The Board is actively looking for new members.  If you know of someone that you think is interested, contact Sandi Wollum at director@seabury.org and she will pass the information on to the board.

Join us to celebrate Seabury's 20 years in the community on Friday, October 9th at 1:30pm on the lower campus.  Yes, the school was founded in September 1989 by a group of visionaries who saw the need for an intellectually advanced program for gifted learners.  We send out a huge Thank You to that group and hope that you can join us to celebrate our school.
PBC News

The Parent Booster Club is looking for Class Representatives.  Currently, the PBC has the following reps:

Superstars     Kristin Hall
Navigators     Shamaela Khan
Middle School     Brenda Bono

The following classes are in need of a rep:  Bear Cubs, Sharks, Beacons and Explorers.  If you feel that this is too big of job for you, perhaps two parents can divide the job.  Class reps help with party planning, phone trees, teacher assistance if requested and the class auction project.  There are always plenty of parent helpers to assist the rep; we just need the leader to delegate the jobs.  Worried about going to the meetings?  PBC meets every other month.  If you have more questions about being a classroom rep, contact Barbara Jackson, PBC President, at winndog2000@aol.com.

SEABURY STAR AUCTION
SATURDAY, MARCH 6TH

Looking for wordsmiths!  For this year's Seabury Auction, we would like to play off of the theme of the 1920's while at the same time incorporating Seabury's 20th birthday.  Any good auction title/theme ideas out there?  If so, send them to Margaret Jacobsenor Dawn Vitale.

New changes in emails at Seabury
This week we have new information about the changing emails at school.  All staff at Seabury are getting new email addresses.  These will be used for contact between parents and teachers or parents and staff (ie office, head of school, specialists, etc.)  I am not going to include the whole list but the format for all teachers and staff will be as follows:
firstnamelastinitial@seabury.org. (this example does not go anywhere)

For example:  to contact the main office, one can go to joslynk@seabury.org or office@seabury.org. Mrs. Wollum can be contacted at sandiw@seabury.org or director@seabury.org. Mr. Welch is tobyw@seabury.org.  You can get the idea.  Please add your child's teacher's new email address to your address book and contact them through that address please.

 Keep on blogging!

I am not sure if that is really the correct terminology but it sounded fun to me!  All Seabury classes have a blog set up just for you to visit.  Please be sure to go to www.myseabury.org to visit all of the classroom and specialists blogs.  Madame Olliphant and Ms. Young have added new blogs.  A special note about the library blog is the Amazon.com link-Seabury gets credit for ANYTHING you buy at Amazon.com if you go through the link on Ms. Young's blog page.  Thanks to Kelli Hodges for ordering birthday books through the link!

The middle school blog has entries from their trip to Mt. Rainier along with pictures.  OPI info has been posted on the Navigators and Explorers blogs.

So Get Blogging!
Come visit us at Tacoma Mall or send a friend to learn about the programs at Seabury!
