Your Contributions at Work

Have you seen the new AV carts being used in classrooms at both the lower and middle school campuses?  Thanks to your generous donations to last year's Fund an Item project at the Seabury STAR Auction, we were able to purchase four carts, each equipped with an ELMO document camera and a digital projector.

Teachers have already been using the new equipment to show PowerPoint presentations, websites and other digital media by hooking their laptop computers to the digital projector.  With the document camera, teachers can project any image - a book, a photo, a print document - onto the screen by just placing the item under the camera.  The document camera projects in full color, so teachers can read books aloud as students read along, walk through a worksheet together, or view a photograph related to a topic of study.  These tools have already been powerful aides to instruction, and students are benefitting daily from them.

Thank you for your generosity and for your
support for Seabury!

Summer Update

Each summer, Seabury undertakes projects to enhance our facility and to address maintenance issues.  Over the past several years, summer work at the lower school has included replacing all the HVAC units upstairs in the main building and in the Media Center, replacing the media center carpet, building new retaining walls around the playgrounds at each end of the building with new chain link fencing around both, and remodeling the ELC classroom including installation of new floors and new kitchen cabinetry.

This summer, resources for facilities were more limited than in previous years. In recognition that there would be greater need for financial aid this year due to current economic conditions, some of the resources that typically would have gone toward facilities upgrades at the lower school were used to increase our available financial aid funds.  As the board anticipated, the need for aid was, indeed, considerably greater than in previous years, and we have been grateful that the additional resources available allowed us to bring additional students in to Seabury who might not have been able to attend otherwise.

In spite of those limitations, Seabury was able to install the last section of chain link fence and a gate at the west end of the lower school playground, and replace the PE equipment shed at that end of the building.  We were able to cover the new garden with mulch donated by the Asplund Co., who spent the summer trimming trees around power  lines in the area.  Our Explorers room was painted thanks to Marion Head.  And our multipurpose room was painted thanks to Margaret Jacobsen and Skyree Sandvik.  The complete renovation of the middle school space was completed by the Knights of Pythias, our landlords, as part of our lease agreement.  We are grateful to all of those who made it possible for our school to start the year looking great, and look forward to continued improvements as we move forward.

A huge merci to the Huffingtons, especially Bentley for donating her doll house to the French program. It is complete with people, furniture, and even a swimming pool and van. Rooms of the house, family and furniture were planned as themes this year, so the timing of the gift is perfect! Again, merci beaucoup for facilitating learning learning through play.

Healthy Students

We are committed to doing everything we can to keep Seabury children healthy.  Teachers are encouraging students to wash hands thoroughly and frequently, and are sanitizing classroom surfaces regularly.

Please remember to keep your child home from school if your child is ill.  Seabury's policies require children to stay at home if they have had a fever, or have vomited or had diarrhea, in the previous 24 hours.  In order to protect all our students, sick children will be sent home, particularly if they are showing any "flu-like symptoms."  Please make sure you have made arrangements for your child to be picked up promptly in the event that your child becomes ill during the school day.  Your help is appreciated!
