Come one, Come all to the super, colossal rummage sale to benefit the projects that the Parent Booster Club supports.  If you are a parent at Seabury, you are a member of the PBC.  Drop by the school on Saturday or Sunday to see what kind of treasures you will find:  books, children's clothing, children's toys, games, furniture and other miscellaneous wonderful items are on sale.  And, if you can stick around a bit to help out, our PBC Prez Barbara Jackson and Vice Prez Kelli Hodges would greatly appreciate the help!  It will be a great day to work on that tan while helping out your child's school.

From the Office
Two things this week....
First, you may have noticed that our Head of School, Sandi Wollum, has not been on campus.  She has had a family emergency and is down in California with her relatives, nursing her mother.  Please keep her in your good wishes and she will return as soon as she is able.  Mrs. Wollum is keeping in contact by emails and telephone calls.

Secondly, It's time to thing about "Summer at Seabury."  The first week begins on Monday, June 15th at 9:00am.  Three camps are going to be offered during that week: K-2nd-Meet the Author with Becky Young; 3rd-5th-Drama Queens and Kings with Tamara Ritchie; 6th-7th-Rocket gliders with Todd Ritchie.  Since these classes are offered during the first week after we get out of school, most of the attendees will be "Seabury friends" and the classes should be small.  I encourage Seabury parents to sign their kids up for one more "play/learning" week before the summer gets started.  Just go to www.seabury.org and download the application.  You can mail it in or toss it on my desk with the deposit.

Middle School News

 The Middle School Groundbreaking was....FUN!

 Grdbkg band

It was a grand inaugural event to have in that space - the positive and upbeat feel to the evening's celebration still lingers in the space! With the lease being signed just one week earlier, the middle school space has undergone a huge transformation in a very short period of time. We are very pleased to be in that location and to be so centrally located in the downtown core.

Earlier in the day of the Groundbreaking, we took the fifth and sixth grade students down to the middle school location. Working with the construction crew, we helped to get things organized for the afternoon's event and students hung their body prints and writing on the wall for all to view later. Students also gladly pitched in to hang the photo display and other signage. Later that afternoon, we took the students down to the Farmer's Market and they were able to stroll though and around the market.
One of the things I gleaned from the day was that the students are truly excited to be in that location and that they were eager to think about themselves as middle school students. Being able to work in that space for the first time brought a concrete reality to an idea that has been on the minds of many for quite some time. Several people associated with the school made kind offers of assistance that bespoke the excitement and desire to see this project into fruition.
Thank you to all who have contributed into making that Groundbreaking possible!

With 80 degree weather and June right around the corner, summer is upon us!  As I reflect on the year, I am humbled by your generosity of time and money to Seabury.  You are invaluable to the success of the school, and I thank you deeply for all that you give to our students.

The added financial strain of the economy has made it an especially tight year for us all. With budget cuts across all sectors of the economy, Seabury is blessed to have such a supportive community.  As other organizations contract, we are expanding to include a Middle School.  This is only possible because of your support for our program and understanding of our community's need for a unique school for gifted children.

That being said, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't let you know that we are $3936.00 away from our 2008/09 annual fund goal of $44,000.

What would $3936.00 buy?

  • 35,490 pencils
  • 171 school chairs
  • 23 digital cameras
  • 5 computers
  • 1/9 of a starting teacher's salary for one year

Help us close the gap before the end of our fiscal year on June 30th, 2009.

Come join us for espresso drinks on Thursday, June 11th from 7:30-9:30am as Stephanie Papke from 1st Choice Espresso fixes up frothy, delicious lattes and mochas for everyone.  A small token of our immense appreciation for you!
