Bring the family and create crafts with other familiesfrom 6-8pm. Or, leave the kids behind and spend an "adult" night out for a mere $20.00 from 6-9:30pm! Good time to get that secret shopping trip done! Have a romantic dinner and enjoy the company knowing that your children are in expert hands. Speaking of: Barbara is still looking for 2-4 volunteers to help. (Remember: Older siblings can volunteer for you and it still counts towards volunteer hours.) Contact Barbara Jackson or Kelli Hodges for more info and to volunteer. |

Have you noticed that the days are getting darker and colder? Makes us all want to stay at home and "skip school". Unfortunately, when one of the teachers or students are missing, it changes the dynamics of the classroom and students miss out on learning. That is why we encourage children to wear their coats, hats and gloves during the cold weather. We also ask them to dress in layers, "It's easier to take it off but you cannot add a layer if you do not have it at school." We continue to ask parents to keep their children at home if they have excessive coughing or mucus, or if they have had a fever, diarrhea or throwing up within 24 hours,. This breaks the cycle of colds and germs that are passed around the classrooms and helps to keep healthy the teachers and students at school. The holidays are fast approaching and we want to try to keep everyone healthy.
Speaking of the holidays: Next Thursday and Friday is the Thanksgiving break. We will let out early on Wednesday (12:00noon, 11:30 for Bear Cubs). But before we go off to spend this holiday with family and friends, the students will be passing on some of their charitable spirit of giving to the Multi-Service Center, in the form of non-perishable foods that they have been collecting this week and next week. Cans, pasta in sealed bags and boxes of sealed food will all be accepted. Every year that Seabury students have done this drive, the MSC has been very appreciative. We appreciate the giving and kindness of each and every family at Seabury. Thank you for helping to make the food drive a success.
At 10:30am on Wednesday, the classes will bring down their boxes of food to the MP Room and pile it all up. Then we will share what we are thankful for in our own lives. After that, we will feast on a feast that all of the classes have contributed to. Please come join us.
On Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 1 and 2, teachers will be conducting parent conferences at Seabury. Please be sure to check your emails or teacher's blog for conference times. Report Cards will go home on Wednesday, November 26th. Conferences are the best times to talk with your child's teacher about concerns you may have about grades or the classroom. The PBC is arranging childcare amongst the parents so be sure to chip in an hour if you can. Contact Barbara Jackson winndog2000@aol.com if you can help.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I would like to invite all parents to review the Middle School Curriculum Guide that is posted on the school's website. The Middle School Curriculum Guide describes in detail the scope sequence of the skills that will be taught to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Please read through the two documents and provide me with some of your thoughts as I believe that the final product will be greatly enhanced through community input. I am currently working on finalizing the Integrated Curriculum which I will share with you in the next Newsletter. The Facilities Committee has been actively viewing potential sites for the middle school in downtown Tacoma. At this point, we have viewed 5 different sites, one of which we will be entering into lease negotiations with shortly. In viewing these different sites, we have taken into consideration many factors: the overall safety of the neighborhood, having controlled access to the building, traffic flow for pick-up and drop-off, access to public transportation, access to community resources, access to a public park, and classroom space that will allow for expansion as well as being aesthetically pleasing! If you have any questions about this process, please talk with Sandi or myself. On another note, we are in the final phase of purchasing a 22 passenger school bus! This bus will be used as an "activity bus" this year and will be available for classes for field studies. Next year, the bus will be also used to transport students between the middle and lower school campuses. We are very excited to make this purchase and want to thank the school community for their donations at last year's auction to make this possible! |
Thanks again to everyone who shopped, volunteered and bought books for the classrooms or library at our Halloween week book fair. We made $593.20, which goes directly into the library budget, plus I got to pull $425 in books from the fair. The classrooms also received lots of wonderful books. Watch for another book fair in the spring. Here are other ways you can support the library. Kids love to donate a book to celebrate their birthdays. We have a special bookplate we put in the books with their name and the year. Those books will be here for years. I still come across some donated for my daughter Halleyʼs birthday. Sheʼs turning 23 next month! If you need an idea of what we need, I keep a wish list going on Amazon. (Seabury School Library.) Thereʼs a link to it on the library blog. Which brings me to ANOTHER WAY YOU CAN HELP THE LIBRARY. An absolutely painless way, if you shop at Amazon already!!! Iʼve registered the library as an Amazon Associate. So, if youʼre going to buy stuff (not just books but other stuff too!) at Amazon and you enter the site through the little search widget on my library blog, (We have widgets on the Seabury site "my Seabury", too.) EVERYTHING, you buy will give the library a few cents credit that I can buy BOOKS with for your children to read!!! It adds up. I do all my personal Amazon shopping that way. And last year Halley bought a camera through Amazon. This fall we really needed a couple of good nonfiction earthworm books in the library and I had enough of a credit to buy them. Thanks for remembering the library if you do holiday shopping at Amazon.
Also on my latest blog entry are things heard in the library this week. Check it out, you may learn something new. Library blog |

Annual Fund
Thank you to everyone who pledged support to the annual fund. Collectively, we have raised $31,420.00! Every day, because of your help, we move closer to our goal of $44,000 and 100% participation. Everyone on the board, 80% of the staff and 50% of the parents have pledged so far. If you have already pledged, you have made an investment in the future of Seabury and the unique education we provide for gifted children. If you have yet to pledge, remember that tuition does not cover the full cost of educating a child at Seabury, we rely on the donations of parents, board members, staff and friends of Seabury to close the tuition gap. If you value what Seabury does for gifted children, I hope that you will consider a donation. With gratitude, Katherine Overton

The holiday season is approaching quickly. This can
become a very stressful time for you and your children. The Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted ( SENG) website has many informative articles for parents of gifted students that can give you some insight on why your child may be acting the way they are.
Have a wonderful holiday!
