2008-09 Bear Cubs in ELC
As the second week of school drew to a close today, we celebrated Founder's Day commemorating the 19th anniversary of the founding of Seabury School in 1989. Seabury's birth was the dream of founders, Barbara Field and Lee Fisher. Lee and Barbara dreamed of a school where gifted children would help them discover their unique gifts and develop their talents. A place that encouraged inquiry and exploration, and that gave them opportunities to move through curriculum at a pace that fit the way they learned. They wanted students to be part of a community of learners that loved to dive deeply into topics through an integrated, project based curriculum. Nineteen years later, Barbara and Lee's dream has become a reality. Our students thrive in a setting where they are understood, supported and appreciated. Seabury is a place where children can discover what they are capable of and develop their intellect and creativity. Thank you for supporting Seabury by entrusting us with your children, by supporting the school with your donations of time and resources, and by referring friends and family members whose children need the challenging, supportive environment Seabury has to offer. And thank you to Barbara and Lee for having the courage and the foresight to make their dream of Seabury a reality for students during the past 19 years and well into the future! Happy Founder's Day!

News and Notes School is off to a great start. Please note the following important requests that will make this a safe and successful year for your children:
- If your child takes any medications, either temporary medications such as antibiotics or long term medications such as allergy medications, it is extremely important that the medications be noted on your child's emergency form. If medications change during the school year, or if you forgot to list your child's meds when you completed the form prior to the start of school, please call or email the office with updated information. In case of an accident or emergency involving your child, the first question that emergency responders will ask befor e they can begin treating your child will be whether the child is on any kind of medication. It is vital that we be able to respond accurately. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep your child safe.
- Thank you for observing our guidelines for drop off and pick up at school. Our drive through line has been operating smoothly and our children have been safe in the parking lot thanks to parents who have been using the parking lot when the need to leave their cars to talk with a teacher or parent, and who have been driving through the parking lot from the east to the west.
- Your summer packet included your parent handbook. If you have not yet taken time to review the handbook, please do so. It contains important information about everything from our policies for sick children to our discipline policy. Parents are expected to be familiar with the information in the handbook, and it will be a helpful guide for many of the questions that may arise during the school year. If you have questions regarding the handbook, email the office at seaburyoffice@comcast.net.

Support for Grieving Children Last Friday, Seabury's children and families gathered to remember Gregory Hampel, our beloved first grade teacher who died tragically this summer. Our celebration was a simple but beautiful ceremony designed by our staff to help our children say goodbye to Mr. H. Many parents have asked for resources to help support their children in the coming weeks and months as they work through their grief. The Dougy Center is a wonderful resource for grieving children and their families. The National Director for the Dougy Center has written an article titled, "The Club No One Wants to Join; A Dozen Lessons I've Learned from Grieving Children and Adolescents." Resource Corner Each newsletter, we hope to offer Seabury parents resources that will help you better understand your gifted child. This week, we start with a document created by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), "The Gifted Child's Bill of Rights." Click here to view the article.
