ANTIQUE CENTER OF TEXAS |
Greetings!
Please read on to catch up on some over-due news from our place!
|
Celebrate Our Independence
We're all about honoring
our
great United States of America this month at the Antique Center.
To celebrate July the Fourth
- from the 1st to the 31st - we have searched our
dealers' booths and put together a special display of patriotic-themed
items. Some will make you proud, some will give you
pause, some may even surprise you.
The display, located near
Mabel's Café in the Texas Tea Room, will change from time to time as
items are
purchased and others added.
|
Certainly,
last month's display for horse racing, "The Sport of Kings," changed as
some
pictures galloped off with new owners and other items joined the
stable.
We haven't revealed the theme
for August's special display...stay tuned. Better yet, check it out.

New Jeweler Opens Shop
Longtime Houston jeweler and
craftsman Mike Albarran has set up shop at the Antique Center. Bring that bracelet with the broken clasp
you've wanted to have repaired or the ring with the loose stone to Mike.
He'll
fix it.
Mike can handle custom
designs, remounts, repairs and manufacture, set diamonds and precious
stones. He'll work on antique jewelry,
costume jewelry, even silver or silver plate trays and teapots. Want to
recycle
or liquidate gold, silver or platinum? Bring it
in.
Also, Mike can repair watches, change batteries, replace stones,
re-string
necklaces. Just ask him!

The Furniture Connoisseur Opens Shop
The Furniture Connoisseur has a new home! Third-generation
cabinetmaker and furniture restorer Robin Richardson has located his
fascinating array of top-of-the-line furniture care products at the middle of
Antique Center's west (back) wall.
As the name denotes, Robin offers internationally known
restoration polishes and waxes, as well as the best possible selection of the
suede rags and dusting cloths for the care of fine furniture in any collection.
He is the only dealer in this part of the nation who sells many of the products
you will find in his booth.
Robin offers renowned brands such as Harrell's, a British
maker whose cleaners are used in Buckingham Palace and throughout the world,
and Pate Dugay, the French manufacturer of fine quality furniture paste wax.
Robin not only can furnish connoisseurs with the supplies
they need, he plans to keep regular booth hours to explain in detail the
correct use and application of every product. He also devotes time to "live chat"
at his website: www.thefurnitureconnoisseur.com
Via email: info@thefurnitureconnoisseur.com
Robin's passion is not limited to providing supplies;
as a furniture maker, Richardson has reproduced pieces from the famous Bill
Blass collection. Blass and Richardson were friends and fellow furniture
connoisseurs for more than two decades.

"Let them eat cake"... and pie and more

Good News! Mabel's Café has opened for lunch in the
Texas Tea Room at Antique Center of Texas.
Bring your sweet tooth,
because Mabel Moore's specialty is dessert. We can't decide what we like best, but it's hard to beat her dreamy
chocolate cake or the key lime pie or...? You never know what she'll have on any
given day (never on Monday, however, when she's closed).
Oh, and before dessert, there
are sandwiches, such as chicken salad, albacore tuna salad, sliced turkey,
maybe barbecue. Soup of the day, pasta
salad, a few hot entrees like chicken casserole, lasagna or brisket - the menu
varies daily. Cool off with homemade
lemonade or iced tea.
You'll probably be curious
about Mabel's accent. She'll explain
that she is from Spain, but she's been in this country a long time. Some days
you'll find her husband, David Moore, behind the counter, too. They're a friendly addition to the scene at
ACT.

Meet Our Dealers
We're updating our website
with bios and photos of our dealers, plus info about what's in their
booths. Getting a bit of history and
inventory details out of all our wonderful dealers is proving to be no easy
task, maybe - as they say - like herding cats. Some are shy, some too busy, some just need a
little coaxing. We'll keep trying. Check us out @ www.antiquecenteroftexas.net
