Greetings!
Beacon Of Hope is BornSouth Africa Mission (SAM) officially became Beacon of HOPE, International (BOHI) on September 1, 2008. The Board of Directors was looking for a name that better reflected the mission and vision of the organization. It was unanimous that HOPE is what we were bringing to thousands of young people impacted by the AIDS pandemic in South Africa - a light in a dark place - and so Beacon of HOPE was born! Transition to year round program:The most significant accomplishment this year is that the education program has transformed into a year-round program, which holds the potential of increasing our student numbers 1800%. Reduced Cost per Student from $203 in 2004 to under $3 currently: This is mostly as a side effect of the partners that we have been coaching since 2006 finally continuing on with the program in our absence. We are now able to reach a drastically increased number of students without paying the high premium of participants traveling from the USA. You can read the full year-end report at our blog site. Peace,

Vision of Transformed Lives
by Sphiwo
My vision is to change the lives of the Teenagers of Esikhawini, Richards Bay, Kwa Zulu-Natal and South Africa because we all see that the teenagers are suffering from being made the slaves of Alcohol, Drugs and Sex. Now that I am saved, I thought to myself, "what about my friends? What about the people that I used to chill with and smoke with?"
I have been introduced to a program that I think will help me in this mission. Drawn from the Beatitudes,
Celebrate Recovery helps people resolve painful problems in the context
of the church as a whole. Rather than setting up an isolated recovery
community, it helps participants and their churches come together and
discover new levels of care, acceptance, trust, and grace.
It is a program for Implementing a Christ-Centered Recovery Ministry in Your
Church Alcoholism - Divorce - Sexual Abuse - Codependency - Domestic
Violence - Drug Addiction - Sexual Addiction - Food Addiction -
Gambling Addiction and many more! There is a way the church can help
the hurting move beyond their wounds to experience the healing and
forgiveness of Christ.
If you feel led to support this program, I need to purchase the kit for and related supplies, about $200. Contact Susan O'Hara to coordinate your support.

What is the Next Step for Mission 2009?
Our mission plan is to present the Campus Crusade Smart Choices curriculum to High School Students for AIDS
awareness and prevention.
This curriculum linked with our Church-to-Church Partnership Program is proving to be an extremely effective method for training
students and for exposing them to the gospel and a personal relationship
with God. By the end of the year I would like to have some reasonably firm commitment from those that want to participate in 2009.
Which category do you fall in regarding the possibility of a 2009 trip? A) I absolutely will not be able to participate in 2009. B) I am not sure yet but I would like to be on the tentative list and be kept informed on the trip developments. C) I really want to go and will start to plan accordingly.
Whichever category you fall in please send me an email right away and let me know so that I have some early indication of what kind of a team we might have in 2009. This will help me a great deal to start planning.
If you are in category B or C then go to the website with this link: Trip Interest Form and complete the form to give me a little more information.

Meet Clement & Thuli Masondo
Clement and Thuli Masondo are the leaders of the area surrounding the city of Empangeni, which we refer to as the western area. If Derrick is Mr. Personality then Clement is Mr. GetTheJobDone. He is just amazing how many different things he takes on. He is the full time pastor of his church "Living Stone Covenant Church." He has also just built three orphan cottages that house a total of twenty-four children. Each home has a housemother and eight kids. Clement is also the area coordinator for an organization called Judea Harvest that distributes tents that are used for tent revival outreaches. He coordinates the distribution of these tents even though he does not have any transport to move them. Besides all this he is also our western area coordinator and has been the most active in keeping the program going year round between our annual trips.
