cicada
Cicadas are making their late summer presence known with all that high-pitched chirping in trees. Their size can be frightening (ignore them if you can); they will soon disappear.

Needed lawn renovations should be underway. Bare areas in the lawn, if left bare, can produce a bumper crop of weeds. Better to address any seeding or reseeding issues now - fall is the ideal time to start a new or repair an existing lawn on Long Island!

If you haven't already, it's the last call (for 2012) to feed roses with Rose-tone.

Dump any water collecting receptacles - saucers, pots, etc. - to keep mosquitoes at bay.
volcano
Come say 'Aloha' to our new Hawaiian Volcano Plants! These distinctive tropicals are planted and grown on volcanic cinder rock that was produced during a 1955 eruption of Kilauea Volcano on the island of Hawaii. Each rock is unique and original, and provides an excellent growing habitat. Easy-to-care for, they're already planted and include the needed water saucer; all you add is bright, indirect light and water. (Add 1/4" to 1/2" of water in the saucer. The rock will soak up the water like a sponge.) Should you elect to fertilize: use a houseplant fertilizer at 1/4 strength from March through October.

Perfect for home, office, or dorm (it's back to college-time!); choose from flowering Anthurium or Tillandsia; Schefflera; or staghorn fern. In the greenhouse, at Martin Viette.
odlsale
Warm, sunny days, and cooler nights; there's something special about late summer and fall on Long Island. Think about it; this really is the ideal time to enjoy the garden or landscape - minus the excess heat and humidity! To kick-off the arrival of glorious fall weather, our entire outdoor living department is celebrating with a sale!

All glazed pottery is 60% off. Plant up some beautiful fall planters with our mums, cabbage, kale and grasses, or think ahead and buy for spring 2013! Many colors, styles and sizes to choose from.

Kick back and enjoy fabulous outdoor furniture- sofas, lounges, tables, chairs, bistro sets and more - at 40% off. Fountains, umbrellas, fire pits, hammocks, gazing globes and holders, weathervanes, and benches are also 40% off. Bronze statuary is 25% off.

Who said grilling is just for summer? It's a year-round cook-out on Long Island! You won't have to 'imagine' that just-grilled hamburger in mid-January! Enjoy 25% off our popular Saber grills and accessories.

Delivery on heavy items can be easily arranged. Please note: sale is for in-stock items only. There are no discounts on special orders.
tomatoinn

If you've grown vegetables this summer, you must be savoring the fruits of your labor! Whether it's juicy, ripe tomatoes, fabulous zucchinis, or flavorful herbs, now is the time to enjoy them. And if your garden's produced too much of a good thing, consider donating your extra harvest to the INN - Interfaith Nutrition Network. Martin Viette Nurseries gladly accepts food donations. Just bring it to us (daily 9am to 6pm) and we'll deliver it to the INN for their soup kitchens!
