Ripening blueberries need protection from feeding birds. Consider netting to protect your crop! Matured leaves from spring-flowering bulbs can be removed. Mark the areas (so you don't damage existing bulbs), cut back spent leaves, and then plant with flowering annuals to continue color and interest through fall.
Remove weeds in landscape beds; they rob needed moisture and nutrients from desirable plants.
Roses should be fertilized every 6 weeks with Rose-tone.

Luscious lantana, a tough and versatile annual flowering plant, dazzles in the summer and fall garden. Like color in the garden? Lantana delivers with clusters of florets in shades of whites, pinks, oranges, yellows, and interesting two-tone combinations. And if you like butterflies, lantana is a butterfly magnet; especially for Swallowtails.
How to grow: full sun (the hotter the weather, the happier lantana will be) and well drained potting soils are ideal for lantanas. Too little sun and flower production will diminish. Excessive water/rainfall or pots that are slow-to-drain can cause plants to rot and die. Long-blooming, lantana will flower until a killing frost.
How to use: beds, borders, planters, window boxes, hanging baskets - this one plant does it all in sunny gardens!
Easy to grow and easy to enjoy, daylilies should be on everyone's list of Top Ten perennials. Formally known as Hemerocallis (Greek translation: hemera meaning day, kallos meaning beauty), each flower lasts for just a day. Thankfully, most produce an abundance of blooms that we can enjoy for many weeks in the garden. And with a little planning, you can enjoy a sequence of blooms with your favorite daylilies for many months. Popular varieties, such as 'Stella D'Oro', 'Pardon Me', and 'Happy Returns', will bloom continually throughout the summer.
It's all about the flowers. . .Flower colors include a wide range of yellows, reds, pinks, purples, and oranges (some are bi-tones, bi-colors, picoteed). Flower shapes: ruffled, double, trumpet, triangular and more. (Good gardeners will deadhead spent blooms regularly. If left on the plant, seedpods will form and rob needed energy from the plant.)
