In an effort to keep the eNewsletter fresh and informative, we are instituting new guidelines for copy submissions regarding members' business-promotion articles. Copy content should not exceed 250 words for these types of articles. By limiting the word count, we will be able to feature more members' information.
Keep those articles coming in, as it is great to share your company news with the NAWBO membership!

Local NAWBO Member Obtains Forty Under Forty Award
Courtney Smith, President of Benefit Payee Services and NAWBO Louisville member
recently  received the 15th annual Forty Under 40
Award, presented by Business First of Louisville.
Benefit Payee Services is a personal money management
company handling the day-to-day finances for seniors, persons with
disabilities, busy professionals, and anyone who does not have the time or
expertise to handle their own financial affairs.
Mrs. Smith's career goal for Benefit Payee Services is to
become the first nationally recognized personal money management company. In striving to reach this goal, she became
the first person to expand this unique business into two states (Indiana and Colorado).
Business First of Louisville will host a luncheon for all of
the Forty Under 40 recipients on September 24, 2010. For ticket information please call

UPS and NAWBO team up for Metro United Way's Back Pack
Program
UPS's Women's Leadership Development Program
is continuously looking for ways to partner with businesses and
communities. UPS will be participating in a community volunteer event in August
and we would like to invite NAWBO members to participate.
It is called Back to School Jam 2010 which is
a United Way sponsored event. The goal is to
distribute back to school supplies to kids in the Smoketown and Shelby Park
communities.
There are two dates associated with this
event and we are looking for 25 volunteers to participate each day. On Wednesday,
August 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. we will be stuffing backpacks with
supplies in preparation for the actual event which is on Saturday, August 7,
from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be entertainment, food, a
health clinic for immunizations and check-ups, a farmer's market, and backpack
distribution. Volunteers will be doing registration, serving food, distributing
backpacks, etc. Both events will be held at Meyzeek Middle School near downtown Louisville, 828 S. Jackson
Street,40203.

NAWBO Membership FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions about Membership:
Q. Can I join NAWBO locally and not nationally?
A. All memberships go through our National NAWBO office and members must join at both - at the national level and the local chapter level. Take full advantage of all the perks of national and local membership by visiting both websites: www.nawbo.org and www.nawbolouisville.org.
Q. I received communication from national NAWBO that my membership was expiring soon - I think they have my date wrong, how can I find out?
A. This is the #1 most frequently asked question and where most misunderstandings about membership arise. Memberships are valid one year from the date a member joined. Renewals are due the month you expire. There is a grace period for renewals (so you don't have to re-join as a new member, as national renewals dues are slightly less), however your date of expiration remains the same - one year from the date you first joined. It is not one year from the date you paid your renewal.
Example: Brenda Business Owner's New Year's resolution was to network more, so she joined NAWBO online January 1, 2008. Her membership expired Dec 31, 2008. January 2009 came along and she was more focused on her New Year's resolution to hold weekly staff meetings with her employees, and renewing her membership Dec 2008 simply slipped her mind. She attended a NAWBO meeting in March 2009 and it prompted her to send in her renewal. Her renewal was 3 months "late", but it was during the grace period. The due date was Dec 31, 2008, even though she paid it March 2009.
Her next expiration date will NOT be March 2010 - one year from when she paid her renewal - it was still Dec 2009!

Q. What are the membership fees to join NAWBO?
A. There are 4 basic fee structures:
- $ 50 local + $100 national = $150 for emerging businesses
- $100 local + $150 national = $250 for established businesses
- $150 local + $150 national = $300 for supporting members/non-business owners
- $25 local + $100 national = $155 for students (scholarships available)
There are other membership options (retired, student, sustaining, etc.) See details on our web site.

Q. My contact information has changed - who do I contact?
A. You can log onto the national website www.nawbo.org and update your profile and your company's profile. Contact the NAWBO office at info@nawbolouisville.org to change information locally or to obtain your local log on information. Please update your contact information if it changes, so you receive all the communication from NAWBO!
Q. How do I get a list of members?
A. Electronic membership lists are emailed quarterly to all members. You can also contact the NAWBO office to request one. Members are also listed on the Louisville NAWBO web site and the National NAWBO web site by their last name.
Q. Are employees at my business members of NAWBO?
A. National and local by-laws dictate that membership in the organization is in the individual member's name - not in the name of the company. Therefore each person must maintain their own membership. You may bring a guest or a prospective member at non-member rates.
