NEW NAWBO Louisville Website
If you have visited our NAWBO Louisville website recently, you will have noticed that we have a new look thanks to Xstreme Media, which is owned by NAWBO President Lesa Seibert. Along with a new look, comes some additional functionality for "Members Only".
- When you log into the member area, you will see an updated Member Directory under Membership. Please log in and update your information and upload your photo.
- Also under Membership, you will find Member Job Postings. Do you have a job in your company that you are looking to fill? Post it here where fellow NAWBO members can see and send referrals your way.
- Under Get Involved you will find the NAWBO Discussion Forum. This is a place for members to interact with each other and talk about topics that are important to them. There are discussion areas for each committee - so if you have something to share with a committee, post it here. There is a Suggestion Box - have an idea, let us hear about it.

sales, and are responsible only for determining the deal, and preparing to meet
increased demands for products or services.

abounds with local retailers and restaurants, and now you can explore these
offerings more affordably than ever. We hope you are as excited about this new
program as we are. Look for the first deal on Tuesday.

NAWBO Membership Committee
So how is your NAWBO Membership going? Are you feeling
connected? Involved? There's a way to insure that you do feel connected - by
joining a committee. I am a veteran of committee work, and I love it because
that's how I've learned what's REALLY going on! It's a little like Masterminds,
in that committee members really get to know one another, but it can represent
a little less time commitment than some Masterminds groups. NAWBO President, Lesa Seibert, of Xstreme Media LLC, has
asked me to join with Jeanine Moneypenney, of Moss Hill LLC, to help Jeanine continue
with her excellent Membership work.
Membership will be a key committee in the next two years, as our Chapter
prepares to host the 2012 national NAWBO Women's Business Conference here in
Louisville AND celebrates NAWBO Louisville's 20th anniversary.
I am a strong believer in "Many hands make light work." So
if you're thinking "Oh dear - Membership means hours or work and hundreds of
phone calls," we're thinking "Not necessarily." We don't have that kind of
time ourselves, and it is certainly NOT in NAWBO's bestinterest to make the work so time-consuming one's business goes down the drain!
So consider helping out - however much you can swing:
- Maybe it's sending a dozen email reminders a
month at 11 p.m., to fellow members noting their membership is about to expire.
- Maybe it's calling members, at a certain point
in their membership year, to check in with them on how it's going.
- Maybe it's helping us put together a simple
monthly membership networking series.
- And maybe it's helping us with our New Member
initiatives to bring new talent and ideas into our Chapter.
Take the first step and get more information. Send an email
to Cindy Eagles of MP Videos at cindy@mp-videos.com, with a cc to Helen Overfield at director@nawbolouisville.org, with NAWBO MEMBERSHIP in the subject line. Tell
us what kinds of things you're interested in doing and also when - and whether - you can do
committee meetings. If you only want to do NAWBO stuff at home, at 11 pm, in
your bunny slippers, great! Let us know that, too. We look forward to hearing from you....and we mean YOU. |

NAWBO Membership FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions about Membership:
Q. Can I join NAWBO locally and not nationally? A. All memberships go through our National NAWBO office and members must join at both - at the national level and the local chapter level. Take full advantage of all the perks of national and local membership by visiting both websites: www.nawbo.org and www.nawbolouisville.org.
Q. I received communication from national NAWBO that my membership was expiring soon - I think they have my date wrong, how can I find out? A. This is the #1 most frequently asked question and where most misunderstandings about membership arise. Memberships are valid one year from the date a member joined. Renewals are due the month you expire. There is a grace period for renewals (so you don't have to re-join as a new member, as national renewals dues are slightly less), however your date of expiration remains the same - one year from the date you first joined. It is not one year from the date you paid your renewal.
Example: Brenda Business Owner's New Year's resolution was to network more, so she joined NAWBO online January 1, 2008. Her membership expired Dec 31, 2008. January 2009 came along and she was more focused on her New Year's resolution to hold weekly staff meetings with her employees, and renewing her membership Dec 2008 simply slipped her mind. She attended a NAWBO meeting in March 2009 and it prompted her to send in her renewal. Her renewal was 3 months "late", but it was during the grace period. The due date was Dec 31, 2008, even though she paid it March 2009.
Her next expiration date will NOT be March 2010 - one year from when she paid her renewal - it was still Dec 2009!
You can contact the local NAWBO office (502) 625-0248 or the National office 1-800-55NAWBO for specific clarification of your membership.
Q. What are the membership fees to join NAWBO? A. There are 3 basic fee structures:
- $ 50 local + $100 national = $150 for emerging businesses
- $100 local + $150 national = $250 for established businesses
- $150 local + $150 national = $300 for supporting members/non-business owners.
There are other membership options (retired, student, sustaining, etc.) See details on our web site.
Q. I have a question about my membership - who do I contact? A. Local - Helen Overfield, Executive Director of NAWBO (502) 625-0248 director@nawbolouisville.org National - Joyce Lee 1-800-55NAWBO or memberservices@nawbo.org
Q. My contact information has changed - who do I contact? A. You can log onto the national website www.nawbo.org and update your profile and your company's profile. Contact the NAWBO office at info@nawbolouisville.org to change information locally or to obtain your local log on information. Please update your contact information if it changes, so you receive all the communication from NAWBO! Q. How do I get a list of members? A. Electronic membership lists are emailed quarterly to all members. You can also contact the NAWBO office to request one. Members are also listed on the Louisville NAWBO web site and the National NAWBO web site by their last name. Q. Are employees at my business members of NAWBO? A. National and local by-laws dictate that membership in the organization is in the individual member's name - not in the name of the company. Therefore each person must maintain their own membership. You may bring a guest or a prospective member at non-member rates.
