Understanding Trauma and Providing Trauma-Informed Care:
Working with Displaced Children and Families Training Series

The National Center on Family Homelessness presents a series of webinars to support providers to understand the impact of trauma on displaced children and families and integrate a trauma-informed approach to serving families. Join trainer Kathleen Guarino for a six-part training on trauma and trauma-informed care for service providers. Each month from June - November, The National Center will be offering opportunities to learn more about how trauma impacts families and how organizations can develop a trauma-informed approach to designing and delivering services. Special focus will be given to the experiences of Haitian families displaced by the earthquake and resettled in Miami, and how agencies can provide trauma-informed services to this population.

Becoming "trauma-informed" involves using knowledge of trauma and recovery to design and deliver services. This webinar will explore what it means to provide "trauma-informed" care, with particular attention to tailoring services to the needs of displaced children and families. Presenters will introduce the Trauma-Informed Organizational Self-Assessment that can be used by organizations who are interested in assessing their current practices and incorporating agency-wide changes to become trauma-informed. Continuing Education Credits are available for social workers.
