Wilson Commencement Park: Housing and Support for Families
 The National Center on Family Homelessness recently conducted a study of Wilson Commencement Park, which provides safe and stable transitional housing in Rochester, NY to families experiencing homelessness. Along with two years of affordable housing, residents are provided with an array of services that allow them to experience stability and self-sufficiency. They also receive the benefits of a strong community and a safe place to call home. The study focused on long-term outcomes for 31 women who graduated from the program over the past five to ten years. Core Skills of Motivational Interviewing - Boston Training Opportunity
Motivational Interviewing is a person-centered, goal-oriented method of communication to elicit clients' own motivations to change. This evidence-based approach is effective for providers of all disciplines working with people experiencing various health, behavioral health, and related concerns. The Core Skills of Motivational Interviewing training hosted by The National Center on Family Homelessness and the Center for Social Innovation on September 28 will give participants the opportunity to engage in learning exercises related to the spirit, principles, and core methods of this technique. New Mexico Campaign To End Child Homelessness Launches Community Dialogues
Almost 100 participants attended the launch of the New Mexico Campaign's "Strong Starts for Children" initiative in Albuquerque on August 21, 2010. The New Mexico Campaign and Cuidando los Ninos, with support from Everyday Democracy, are hosting community dialogues in September and October in three Albuquerque neighborhoods. During the dialogues, residents will design action plans to address factors key to ending child homelessness such as affordable housing, family friendly jobs, high quality child and family development programs, and healthy eating. Opening Doors: Implementing the Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness 2010
In June 2010, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) released Opening Doors: The Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent & End Homelessness. The four goals of the plan are to: finish the job of ending chronic homelessness in five years; prevent and end homelessness among veterans in five years; prevent and end homelessness for families, youth, and children in ten years; and set a path to ending all types of homelessness. In July, USICH staff and member agencies met to discuss moving the plan into its action phase.
