My HARD DRIVE CRASHED!
Hard drives rarely crash without warning. When we see a failing or failed hard drive we often find that there were signs that the end was near.
- The computer is usually 4 or more years old. The older the computer, the more chance of the hard drive failing. 4 or 5 years is the life expectancy of a hard drive. Remember, computers less than 1 year old are still under warranty. If your hard drive fails on your new computer, the manufacturer owes you a new one.
- The computer has inexplicably slowed down. We will hear that it takes forever to boot up, launch a program, etc..
- The computer is blue screening
- The computer is making a distinct clicking sound. When we hear this sound, it usually means the hard drive has completely crashed with no chance of data recovery.
What should you do if you suspect your hard drive is failing? First MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKED UP YOUR DATA! Then stop using the computer and call us. There are viruses that make your hard drive look like it's failing, They slow down the computer, they make your computer blue screen. We have diagnostic tools that can tell us whether or not your hard drive is failing. We also have tools that will take an exact image of your hard drive if you get the computer to us in time. In addition, we have data recovery tools for our clients who were not able to back up the data in time
