Security Tip of the Month
Everyone in your contact list has received an email from you. It says that you are stranded in London, you've lost your wallet, your passport and you need money and you need it RIGHT NOW!!! In reality, you are not in London. You are at work and you sure aren't asking your friends for money. Your email account has been hacked. You immediately call TMC Squared because you think your computer has a terrible virus. In this case your computer does not have a virus and as much as we would like to, we cannot fix this. Your email server, for example Yahoo, AT&T or Comcast has been broken into and somebody has accessed your email account online, without ever connecting to your computer. These mail providers all allow access to your email account over the internet. If this happens to you, you need to IMMEDIATELY change your email password and contact your email service provider. To prevent this type of hacking, make sure your email password is complex, uses uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. Also, change your passwords on regular intervals. All passwords can be broken, make yours more challenging and the hacker will move on to somebody else's.
