Greetings!

This month's newsletter is about your Making Room for Time.

How often have you thought about something you'd really like to do, but you tell yourself you just don't have the time? Would you be surprised to learn that there are 1,440 minutes each day?  My mentor coach, Maria Nemeth, Ph.D. wrote a book "Mastering Life's Energies: Simple Steps to a Luminous Life at Work and Play". She states that if you take 10 minutes a day (less that 1% of 1,440) and do something that brings you satisfaction for 10 minutes a day, at the end of the year you'll have done it for 60 hours.  That's more that a work week!

There are numerous time management gurus like Brian Tracy, Stephen Covey, or David Allen. I'd like to introduce you to a concept called Making Room for Time by Dondi Scumaci in her book "Designed for Success".  She recommends looking at time as a house with four rooms and all of your activities, commitments, and tasks must be placed into one of them.

The first room is called Maximize.  Here you will place all of the things that make you better such as actions to take to be more prepared, informed, and effective.  The goal is to spend more time in this room.

The second room is called Minimize. Here you will gather things that cause you to react. These are situations that throw you into the frenzy of crisis mode.  You want to reduce the amount of time you spend here.

The third room is called Eliminate. Here is everything that steals your time such as perfectionism, gossip, worry, negativity and fear. You may be surprised how often you go to this room and how much time you spend here.

The last room is called Manage.  It's a place for meetings, interruptions, and communications. This is where conference calls, e-mails and "do you have a minute?" live. Some of these are essential and some are not. This may be the most crowded room in the house.

Where do you spend most of your time?  Are you willing to develop strategies to move from room to room? Make sure to take that 60 hours and go for your goals and dreams!
