"Watching this film is like entering a strange and wonderful dream."
-  Martin Scorsese

New York, July 15, 2010Kino International is proud to release a recent 35mm Technicolor restoration of Albert Lewin's masterpiece PANDORA AND THE FLYING DUTCHMAN (1951) on DVD and Blu-ray.

Restored in 2008 by Martin Scorsese's  Film Foundation and George Eastman House in cooperation with The Douris Corporation, this Kino edition of PANDORA AND THE FLYING DUTCHMAN presents Jack Cardiff's (The Red Shoes) vivid Technicolor cinematography mastered in stunning High Definition.

Since no original negatives were found, Cineric Inc. (based in New York) used a mix of digital and optical printing techniques to bring this Technicolor masterpiece back to life - working mostly from 35mm master positives created in 1951.

But besides selecting the best available material from multiple prints, sections of the film also had to be scanned in 4K resolution so all dirt and scratch marks could be digitally removed, frame by frame, from the final print.
