Lorber Films Releases HOME (2010) Starring Isabelle Huppert, on DVD and Blu-ray

New York, NY - June 18, 2010 - Lorber Films is proud to release HOME (2010),
starring the great Isabelle Huppert (The
Piano Teacher, 8 Women, Madame Bovary, Comedy of Power), on DVD and
Blu-ray.
The official selection of Switzerland for the 82nd Academy
Awards®, this "engaging, darkly funny, surreal story" (Janice Page,
Boston Globe) is the second feature film from director Ursula Meier, who was
referred to by The New York Times as someone with "a particularly generous
appreciation for the human comedy."
The film had its world premiere in the Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival, followed by a
U.S. premiere at New Directors/New Films
in 2009 at MoMA in New York.
As special features, Lorber Films' DVD and Blu-ray of HOME brings
an interview with Ursula Meier and DP Agnes Godard, the film's theatrical
trailer, and the previously unreleased short film Sleepless (1999), also
directed by Ursula Meier.
Lorber Films will release HOME on DVD (SRP $ 29.95) and Blu-ray
(SRP $34.95) on Tuesday, July 27, 2010.
A boisterous middle class family enjoys everyday life in their
simple house that lies on a lush, grassy field next to an abandoned highway.
With no neighbors or cars for miles, they revel in their happy, simple
existence - and each other's company. Michel (Olivier Gourmet) gets to work by
hopping in his car on the other side of the empty stretch of road that seems to
lead nowhere. Marthe (Isabelle Huppert) maintains a joyous household
defined by water-fights, sunbathing, communal bathing and other happy antics.
Life is good - or at least pleasantly average.
When construction on the desolate highway suddenly begins, the danger and
incessant whizzing of tens of thousands of cars overpowers the family's every
waking moment, and the dynamic changes. Mom refuses to leave the only
home she can imagine, Dad begins to crack under the pressure of keeping the
family safe and healthy - and the kids descend into paranoia over the threat of
lead and carbon monoxide poisoning that lurks in the smoggy air.
As much an ode to the sweetness of family life as a gnawing
commentary on the ever-receding space on earth for natural living, Director
Ursula Meier (Strong Shoulders, ND/NF
2003) delivers a life-affirming work that bubbles with environmental consciousness.
"Terrific performances and superb cinematography."
