HFHGP Engaged & Served Hundreds On 9/11 Day of Service & Remembrance
Click the news story above to watch a segment on the 9/11 project at Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard.
On Tuesday, September 11th, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh engaged and served over 400 Veterans, Military Families, Reservists, Active Duty and community volunteers to serve and remember the unity that our country portrayed 11 years ago.
The Day of Service & Remembrance, a project of the Veteran Housing Initiative, was funded through the Corporation for National & Community Service. The day was a wonderful way to raise awareness of the Veterans program, engage the community, and to show appreciation for those who have served and our soldiers in uniform overseas.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved to help make the day a great success.

HFHGP Committee Member Emily Shearer Selected As Part of Prestigious 40 Under 40!
Selected from a nomination pool of more than 220 candidates, this year's 40 under 40 honorees were chosen by an independent panel of judges, comprised of former winners, business professionals and civic leaders. Winners were chosen based on their passion, commitment, visibility, diversity and overall impact on the region.
Emily Shearer has volunteered with Habitat since high school. At Alfred University she was the fundraising manager and VP of her campus' Habitat for Humanity chapter. Every year the chapter did a blitz build in Deland, Florida.
After moving back to PA she volunteered with Washington County Habitat for Humanity for some time, then later moved over to serving on HFHGP's Family Liaison Committee. In addition to helping support new families coming through Habitat's home ownership program, she was instrumental in organizing the toy drive that enabled us to provide gifts to seven HFH families this past holiday season. Emily is 31 years old and currently works at Echo International and Echo Insight as the Manager of Training and Interpreting Services.
We are so blessed to have Emily involved with Habitat for Humanity and are very proud of her accomplishments. |

*******************************
In 2012, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh looks forward
to the development of four key components of our expanded mission to serve local communities:
NEW CONSTRUCTION - one of the core components of our program, we will continue to build new homes when and where appropriate and we will build those homes to green standards. New homes take up to one year to plan and build with volunteers.
REHAB - Habitat has consistently worked to rehabilitate homes for new program families. The difference in our new mission is that we will not only rehab home for new homeowners, but we will enable current local homeowners the opportunity to remain in their homes by doing critical repairs (such as roof replacement) at an affordable cost with volunteer labor. Working through bank programs, we can obtain homes that might need minimum upgrade for a new program participant. These homes can be ready for occupancy within several months.
WEATHERIZATION - expanding the number of clients we can serve in a community, our new weatherization program will cover a wide range of funding levels and demonstrate energy conservation for homeowners. Weatherization homes are also very volunteer friendly and cost effective.
A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS - A new program that includes minor repairs to the exteriors of current homeowners. Activities include painting, landscaping, handicap ramp repair, and other volunteer-friendly activities.
These four construction-based activities will enable Habitat for Humanity the ability to serve more families, impact a broader range of communities, engage additional volunteers, and have a positive overall impact on the Greater Pittsburgh area.
