Here at Habitat, we like to recognize those companies in our area who have supported us in so many ways. After all, it's the least we could do to show our respect and gratitude!

Meet our friends...

Craig Falk, Operations

Jason Cohen, President

"We at Trends Capital understand the importance of community involvement and are proud to be active in partnering with Habitat for Humanity to enrich the greater Pittsburgh area. Our President and CEO Jason Cohen has always had a philanthropic heart, but giving back has not always been an easy option.

In 2007, Jason founded Trend Capital with the intentions of providing the greater Pittsburgh area with world-class service in property management and real estate investment. Like most successful businesses, in order to achieve the highest potential, you must start at the bottom. Establishment costs, start-up fees, and minimal resources had Trends Capital struggling to survive. As a result, giving back to the community was limited and difficult to achieve. However, with hard work and determination, Trends Capital grew with Pittsburgh. The more successful Trends Capital became, the more successful we wanted the greater Pittsburgh area to become, and providing assistance to Habitat for Humanity was the obvious directive.

Habitat for Humanity mirrors our mission statement to develop better housing for our community, so partnering with them was a no-brainer. They know everyone deserves a decent shelter, and it is also our business to develop that. With the success we have achieved in the past five years, Trends Capital can now provide valuable resources like supplies, personnel, and professional experience to Habitat for Humanity.

We have found that working with Habitat for Humanity has been an enriching experience. Whether the project has been building a catwalk for Hard Hats & High Heels or clearing out dangerous debris from buildings on Braddock Avenue, Trends Capital and Habitat for Humanity have become synonymous with the beautification of Allegheny County. Working side-by-side with honest and caring individuals helps develop a positive mentality that becomes contagious in our business. Witnessing the difference we're making in people's lives is a pleasure that becomes addicting, and we're eager to participate more with each upcoming project.

Looking ahead, Trends Capital aims to continue supporting Habitat for Humanity with all of our available resources. This includes striving to attract more volunteers and funding through our own marketing efforts. We are building a closer relationship with our customers and community through social media, providing even further outreach and exposure. We know that our partnership benefits each other, but more importantly, the community of the greater Pittsburgh area. Because of this, the future of our partnership looks bright for years to come."

Tracy Pease, Residential Segment Product Marketing Manager

"In addition to PPG Industries support of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore Grand Opening a little over a year ago, the Architectural Finishes business unit has gotten involved with A Brush With Kindness program helping complete the finishing touches on two projects by providing 70 gallons of exterior paint.  It's amazing what a difference a coat of paint can make and what that home means to the individual and to the community.  That's why PPG seeks to make a difference by enhancing the quality of life in every community it has a presence and since many of the PPG core businesses are related to housing, working with Habitat for Humanity is a natural fit.

As part of its mission to engage with the communities where employees live and work, PPG encourages employee volunteerism with nonprofit agencies and provides support to projects that reflect the interest and value of its employees.  In 2011, PPG was a Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful sponsor, providing paint for community buildings in need of revitalization throughout the state.  PPG has long been a leading contributor of volunteers and paint to the United Way Day of Caring in the Pittsburgh region and plans are underway to make this year's event another success story.

PPG is a preeminent supplier of coatings solutions and is the world's second largest supplier of architectural coatings.  It offers a wide breadth of consumer, commercial and industrial paint brands on six continents.  The PPG PITTSBURGH PAINTS® brand is available nationally and one of its most recognized, trusted, and respected with a legacy spanning more than 100 years.  Generations of painting contractors, building owners, architects, designers and homeowners have used MANOR HALL®, Manor Hall TIMELESS® and SUN PROOF® paints as they are synonymous with quality.  PPG paints are available in the greater Pittsburgh area through local expert and service-oriented independent dealers such as Masterwork Paint, Westmoreland Supply, Rollier Hardware, Ace Paints, Pleasant Hills Hardware, Trader Horn - Wexford, Able Home Center, Devore Hardware, Verner's Paint Center, and John Meier and Sons."

ReStore Celebrates
1 Year Anniversary!
ReStore Manager Glenn and his wife Julie

Can you believe it? The ReStore has been open to the public for 1 year! On Saturday July 28th, the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh ReStore celebrated it's 1 year anniversary with birthday cake, hot dogs and drinks, and sales!

To celebrate, Glenn announced the biggest sales to date! Shoppers took advantage of Buy One Get One Free deals and special markdowns from 25% to 75% off our already reduced prices! All in all, the celebration drew many familiar and new faces and tripled normal Saturday sales!

ReStore manager Glenn Bertha said "the sales are great, but the most important thing to me is seeing new faces!" We were so glad to see our regulars and people who never heard of or seen us before!

Since Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh started working on opening the store, there have been more than 17,765 hours volunteered at the ReStore! Wow! We are forever grateful for all the volunteers who helped and continue to help make the ReStore a reality! Thank You!

A special thanks to Bella Christies and Lil Zs Sweet Botique for making the cake, Paper Mart for the balloons, and Bottom Dollar Foods for the hot dogs and buns!

*******************************

In 2012, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh looks forward

to the development of four key components of our expanded mission to serve local communities:

NEW CONSTRUCTION - one of the core components of our program, we will continue to build new homes when and where appropriate and we will build those homes to green standards.  New homes take up to one year to plan and build with volunteers.

REHAB - Habitat has consistently worked to rehabilitate homes for new program families.  The difference in our new mission is that we will not only rehab home for new homeowners, but we will enable current local homeowners the opportunity to remain in their homes by doing critical repairs (such as roof replacement) at an affordable cost with volunteer labor.  Working through bank programs, we can obtain homes that might need minimum upgrade for a new program participant.  These homes can be ready for occupancy within several months.

WEATHERIZATION - expanding the number of clients we can serve in a community,  our new weatherization program will cover a wide range of funding levels and demonstrate energy conservation for homeowners. Weatherization homes are also very volunteer friendly and cost effective.

A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS -  A new program that includes minor repairs to the exteriors of current homeowners.  Activities include painting, landscaping, handicap ramp repair, and other volunteer-friendly activities.

These four construction-based activities will enable Habitat for Humanity the ability to serve more families, impact a broader range of communities, engage additional volunteers, and have a positive overall impact on the Greater Pittsburgh area.
