The Renjishi. From Pelikan.

'Renjishi' was written by Mokuami Kawatake, based upon the moral of the Shishi (a lion-like creature) who tested the bravery of his cub by abandoning him in a bottomless ravine. Only if the cub showed courage and strength would he survive and be raised as the noble offspring of the Shishi.

In the traditional staging of this dance, the actors wear elaborate carved masks, one with white hair to connote the parent Shishi and the other with red hair to symbolize the cub.

The climax of the performance is depicted in Pelikan's truly sensational new Maki-e fountain pen by Shozo Makamura. Portrayed on the cap is the white-haired parent Shishi, a whirling dervish who exhibits vigorous exuberance matched only by that of his red-haired child, who is represented along the pen's barrel.

The 'Renjishi' is a masterpiece that combines the craftsmanship of Pelikan and the legendary Japanese Maki-e techniques which are renowned the world over.

The Pelikan logo is on the crown along with the limited edition number and artist's signature, which are drawn in by hand using the Maki-e technique.
