A Magical Moment Pittsburgh Steelers' Heath Miller
| |

| |
At Tickets for Kids, we know that a simple moment can give a child the sense that anything is possible. We ask celebrities and other influential people to share those moments in their early life that opened a door to their future. Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end since 2005, recently shared his story about the importance of being included in activities as a kid.
"I remember when I was 10 years old and we won our Little League championship. It was such a cool experience as a young kid. I don't want to say it was a life-changing experience, but it was something that taught me a lot about life. I was the pitcher in that game. I don't remember how well I did or what the score was, but I do remember just having fun. I learned about being a teammate and I learned how to show my talents. Back then it wasn't about winning or losing like it is now. As I play in the NFL, I look back on what I learned playing Little League baseball. I learned to be a good competitor, a good sport, and I learned to take pride in what I did then and now. It also didn't hurt to win either."

Summer of Smiles
As after-school programs get into full swing and cooler weather is upon us, we close out a productive and successful summer season.
Thanks to the unwavering support of our generous donors, Tickets for Kids Charities provided more than 40,000 opportunities for children and their families to participate in a variety of summertime activities.
Water and amusement parks provided a "staycation" for families who couldn't afford a traditional vacation, museums kept kids learning while making it fun, and professional baseball games provided the ultimate summer activity.
As we enjoy fall, we look forward to Halloween
activities, hayrides, and the circus! These experiences could not happen without your support and we hope you keep Tickets for Kids on your annual giving list.

In Their Words
The stories that kids, parents, and chaperones share with us illustrate the profound impact participating in community events and activities can have on young lives, and underscore the value of our mission.

"This, as usual, was a great event. For our parents, this is a way to provide summer vacations for their families. With the economy the way it is, very few of our families would have been able to go anywhere this summer. Parents were truly grateful and humbled for this opportunity, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the park. We thank you for providing the tickets for us."
AIU/Highlands Family Center at Idlewild & Soak Zone
"Our preschool class had a wonderful time on their trip to the Children's Museum. A lot of our children had never been to the museum before and they were overwhelmed by all of the fascinating things they were able to see and do. Thank you once again for helping our children to experience something new." Interplay Child Care Center at Children's Museum of Pittsburgh
"I can't tell you how much we appreciated the tickets to Hairspray...my mentee literally squealed when she heard they were available! It was a great opportunity to have some stress-free time. The message of the show was a great conversation starter...things like self-image, racism. Of course, the music and colorful set made it just plain fun - we were dancing our way out of the theater. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity. It's something we could not otherwise have enjoyed together!" Family Guidance, Inc. at Hairspray |

TFK BENEFITS FROM MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PARTNERSHIP

Tickets for Kids has a heavy hitter in our corner - Major League Baseball. Over the past five years, TFK and Major League Baseball have forged a mutually beneficial partnership. TFK is grateful for Major League Baseball's support, which opens the doors to the world of baseball for us, the agencies we serve, and numerous kids around the country.
One benefit of this partnership is our annual support of the MLB® All-Star Game® and FanFest®. Held every July in different cities, this five-day event features numerous activities and attractions. Our presence helps educate baseball fans about TFK, provides exposure to Major League Baseball clubs across the country, and raises funds to support our mission. The 2010 event culminated with a grand sports memorabilia auction where a locally created art piece, commissioned by MLB, was auctioned off. Proceeds from this piece are generously donated to TFK.
In turn, we help support MLB's outreach program by coordinating opportunities for underserved children to attend FanFest. This year, we successfully worked with 18 social service agencies in Southern California, enabling 1,800 underprivileged children to attend this unforgettable experience.
Thank you to Major League Baseball, MasterCard, and numerous private donors for making this year's FanFest a huge success. Your support is integral to both Tickets for Kids and youth who otherwise may never get to experience Baseball's summer festivities.
