AHW MINISTRIES NEWSLETTER

About His Work with Janet   February 2012

               LOVE LIFE AND LATTES
We loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.

(1 Thessalonians 2:8)

February's opening article is about love, but not hearts and flowers. In fact, I must warn that the content may offend some and all may not agree.

God has challenged me to encourage Christians to stand up and speak up for what we believe and not be dissuaded for fear of being politically incorrect at the expense of being morally correct--"Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor" (Proverbs 21:21).

Like many of you, I went from applauding the Susan G. Komen organization for choosing to defund Planned Parenthood to being appalled by their succumbing to political, financial, and mass pressure. If you don't know all the details, and even if you do, please read Christianity Today's article "The Pink Ribbon and the Dollar".

What appalled me most was the overwhelming protest to Komen breaking ties with Planned Parenthood. The media and protestors called abortion a "political issue". Abortion is a moral issue. The line between right and wrong--what constitutes sin--is being drawn and championed by the world and morphed into politics.

I was recently told in a Facebook comment that I was on my "moral high horse". I took that as a compliment. I'm going to ride that horse and I hope many of you are riding with me. Speaking out to those who need to hear the truth--not just to each other--but to a world under Satan's yoke.

As many of you know, I am a three-time breast cancer survivor, and when I first started this journey ten years ago I championed the work of the Komen organization. My husband and I made a significant donation and participated in Races for the Cure to support saving lives from breast cancer, not destroying unborn lives from abortion. I have walked my last Race for the Cure. I will still wear pink and the pink ribbon proudly because Komen does not own the pink ribbon: a universal breast cancer emblem.

Following close on the heels of Komen's fiasco, JCPenny has chosen Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson and in Ellen's words resisted protests of "a handful of critics amongst an outpouring of support." DeGeneres is funny, witty, and seems to be a nice person, but she is also pro-gay marriage and has attempted it herself. We will not be shopping at JCPenny now!

Starbucks will also no longer receive our business--and I love my lattes--after I read their tweet "We are proud to support Marriage Equality legislation in the Washington State Legislature."

If you're feeling a bit convicted and want to know what to do, read this inspiring article about a very successful Victoria Secret's model who chose faith over fame and kept both.

You may say: Well I'm sure there are many businesses where we shop that have liberal views. That's probably true. But once you know the truth about their moral views, you have to make a decision. Are you going to continue financially supporting a business or organization that blatantly supports immorality?

I'm not going to sell my soul for a latte? How about you?

A reader's comments on CBD:
Face-to-Face with Sarah, Rachel, and Hannah by Janet Thompson is a great devotional book when you need a refresher in how to pray. A lot of studies I have done in the past start with a brief paragraph about salvation and how you can become a Christian. This book does an incredible job of presenting salvation and laying out the steps better then any devotional I have read. more>

FEATURED WOMAN TO WOMAN MENTORING MINISTRY TESTIMONY

   Perfect for Small Churches Too!

Dear Janet,
Our church is located in Dyersburg, TN - population 19K, membership 109 and avg church attendance is about 40. It is a very small church but I can easily see how needed this program is - we plan to start Feb 19th. I am working with Tina (another lady from my church) - she caught the fire and asked me to join her and I was thrilled! then I asked her what I had to do - ha! Tina said all the information was in this box she got from Lifeway - and slapped her hands together exclaiming how easy this would all be! double ha!

But I am still on fire about this program and thrilled to be a part of it. I want to thank you for your inspiration and helpful program.
My livingroom will seat (with extra chairs) 16 and I worry about needing more chairs - ha! But we know God will provide.

I work in MO and told the secretary about your/our/God's program - she is really interested in it! It seems the ministers wife started a similar program a few years back and it was 'HER' program and she told everyone what to do and how to do it - it did not last. I told our secretary it is NOT our program - it is GODS and it is entirely based on prayer! I am so impressed that we even pray over the chairs! I will keep you updated on our progress. Will also check out the Bible study and "The Team That Jesus Built" book.

Many Thanks Again,
Linda MacDonald

Meet An Author
                                                                                Cindi McMenamin

Cindi McMenamin is a national speaker and award-winning writer who helps women find strength for the soul. She is the author of several books including When Women Walk Alone (more than 100,000 copies sold), Women on the Edge and her newest, When a Woman Inspires Her Husband. She has more than 20 years experience ministering to women as a pastor's wife, Bible teacher and director of women's ministries. Cindi lives in San Diego County, California with her husband of nearly 25 years, Hugh, and their daughter, Dana, who is now in college.

I asked Cindi a few questions about the book:

What was your motivation behind writing, When a Woman Inspires Her Husband?

Several readers of my book, When Women Walk Alone, were married women asking what they could do to make their husbands want to walk alongside them. I interviewed my husband - and 25 other men married at least 10 or more years - and asked them what their hearts long for when it comes to a wife. And their answers were surprisingly simple. The contents of this book pretty much outline what every husband wants in his wife! And he will love for you to read it and implement the application steps.

Was this book helpful in your own marriage, as well?

Absolutely. Like any wife, I've been in the place where I've wanted transformation in my marriage. But I was asking God to change my husband, rather than saying "Ok, God, start with me." I'm a firm believer that transformation begins, in our personal lives, spiritual lives and in our marriages, when we, as wives, are willing to say "God, start with me." As I began to focus on giving and extending to my husband, rather than getting and expecting, it changed both of our hearts.

What is it that draws a husband's heart closer to his wife?

Most wives make three basic mistakes in marriage:

* We expect our husbands to be more like women than men.

* We tend to act like their mother, rather than their girlfriend.

* We become their critic rather than their cheerleader.

When we can reverse those three and begin to respect him, admire him and make him feel like he's winning, it will draw his heart toward us....and it will help us fall in love with him all over again. Love the man he is, not the man you wish he was.

Cindi's book is available on her website, along with many free resources to strengthen your soul and your marriage. For a free copy of Cindi's book be the first to email me a story of what you do to inspire your husband.
