Rest

From The Very Reverend Robert C. Wright
Rector

Get some rest!  That's my prayer for us.  Get away.

No? Then take some days off.

Be gentle with yourself.  We are not beasts of burden.  Life is more than toil. We are the children of God.  Life is more than work.

Rest is about divine dignity, given us at our creation.  Rest is not what you do in preparation for more work.  Rest is how we tell the world, enough.  Rest is waging spiritual rebellion against a culture that would make us slaves to doing.  Rest is practicing freedom!  Rest is the place we tune in to what the Spirit has been saying all along.  Rest is how you grow your soul.

Did you know that longest of the Ten Commandments, #4, is about remembering the Sabbath? "Rest is holiness in time."

Rest is celebration of what God has done, as you prepare for the next thing God is doing.  Rest is how we practice for an eternal life in the nearer presence God.  Rest is the highest praise we can give God.  Resting means we are trusting God to take care.  Rest is how we imitate God.

"On the seventh day God rested." (Genesis 2:2)

Prayer for today:

When I rest Lord, help me to do it gallantly and joyfully.

God's Peace & Blessings,

Rob+
