The centerpiece of our worship time together happens at the altar. We go to the altar to lay some things down and to pick some things up-for solace and strength. The altar reminds us that "God is a very present help in a time of trouble." (Psalm 46:1)
But there are other altars beside the one we share each week. There are five altars in your home: Your dinner table, your study desk, your bill-paying desk, your quiet place, and your bed.
The dinner table is where we are reminded that God fed us yet again. Because of that grace, we are mindful to give God thanks each time we eat. The study desk is where we read God's word regularly. It's where we go for guidance and for wisdom. The bill-paying desk comes next. This is the place where we say thank you to God for every dollar that comes through our home. Where we are careful to respond to God's generosity with generosity... remembering to share first with God.
The altar of your quiet place is where we tell the world to shhhhhhh, if only for a minute so we can hear what the Spirit is whispering to us- to hear God call us beloved again. Finally there is the altar of our bed. On this altar we rest secure that "God neither slumbers nor sleeps" so we can. (Psalm 121:4) On this altar we are renewed and refreshed. On this altar we reconnect with our loved one through the gift of touch.
The Psalmist wrote, "Can God set a table in the wilderness?" (Psalm 78:19)
Let the people of God say YES!
God's Peace & Blessings,
