Bishop Candidate Walkabouts: May 14-18

Diocesan CrestFrom the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta

bishopsearch.episcopalatlanta.org

The six candidates for the 10th Bishop of Atlanta will visit the diocese this month making five stops at public gatherings to introduce themselves and answer the questions of participants.

The design is the same for each "walkabout" session: the evening begins at 6 o'clock in the host church's sanctuary or parish hall. After an opening prayer, the format for the evening will be explained and each candidate will offer two minutes of introductory remarks. Then, attendees will be assigned to one of six rooms with a facilitator. The candidates will visit each room individually, stay for 25 minutes to answer questions, and then move to another room. A five-minute break will separate each session and the program ends at 9:30 p.m.

Plan for a very informative and interesting evening. Come out and meet the candidates!

You're Invited! "Poe Show Premiere"

All of St. Paul's is invited to the FREE "Poe Show Premiere" May 11 at Landon's Cascade!

Two cradle St. Paulites--siblings Brian and Janita Poe--are making waves in the Atlanta entertainment industry. Atty. Brian Poe and his influential Atlanta Business and Entertainment Exchange (ABEX) network are among the lead sponsors of the May 11th premiere of "The Janita Poe Show," 5:30-8:30 at Landon's Restaurant and Bar, 3752 Cascade Road at Fairburn Road.

The event will feature extensive business networking opportunities including a sponsors' room with light hors d'oeuvres, photo opportunities in front of a red-carpet style event wall and a live-broadcast panel discussion featuring Landon's founder/owner Ron Frieson and other business owners and experts on "The Boarded Up Black Business District: Why?"

Throughout the free event, attendees will have the chance to win door prizes; exchange business cards; order drinks and food; and pose on-air questions to Janita, panel members and guest host John Williams, owner of J Entertainment ATL. Regular patrons and event guests also have the option of enjoying live jazz entertainment after the premiere for just $5 per person.

A Message from the UBE

The  Union of Black Episcopalians

The mission of UBE is "To live in the baptismal covenant by empowering individuals, communities and congregations of African descent to serve as agents of reconciliation." We encourage the involvements of Black people in the total life of the church, on every level, in every way.

In two weeks, the six nominees for the 10th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta will participate in walkabouts in cities around the diocese.  Walkabouts are an excellent occasion for individuals across the diocese to become involved in the life of the church, and UBE strongly encourages all parishioners to attend at least one.  During the walkabouts attendees will have an opportunity to meet the nominees, ask questions and learn where they stand on important issues-including those relating to African American congregations, communities, clergy and seminarians. Your participation  is extremely valuable, and we hope you will attend.

The Atlanta walkabout will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (404-873-7600) from 6:00-9:30 pm.

Goodbye, AOL... Hello, StPaulsATL!

St. Paul's is getting new email addresses!

For a while now, you may have noticed that Father Fischer and Kelly King (the guinea pigs) had new email addresses, but the beta testing is complete and now everyone's getting on board!

Soon, all  email address will be First initial, Last Name like so: CFischer@StPaulsATL.org

(The address isn't case-sensitive... it just "reads" easier that way!)

It will be a month-long roll-out.. so you have that long to get accustomed to the new addresses, update your contacts, and commemorate the end of the AOL era. Until May 31.

In the meantime, as everyone get their new addresses set up, you will begin getting return messages from their old addresses reminding you that the old address is being discontinued. We'll keep reminding you here as well.

On June 1, it's over. The old email addresses will be gone forever.

No backsies. Kaput. Finito. The End.

Please do your part to keep us in touch!!

St. Paul's Strategic Planning Committee

Georgia Hospice Follow-Up

hands

Georgia Hospice recently provided hospice volunteer training at Saint Paul's.  We were pleased with the number of people who came to learn more about hospice and to understand how to become hospice volunteers.  However, at this point Gerogia Hospice has not received any paperwork back from those who attended the training sessions.  The training requires a background check and a drug screening.

Georgia Hospice has an immediate need for two volunteers who can complete hospice training in the next two weeks.  Georgia Hospice is currently providing care to a beloved member and his family who have been active members for years at Saint Pauls.  They could benefit from having a volunteer visit their home.  We also have a need for another family in the area who needs a volunteer for a couple of hours a week to provide the caregiver the opportunity to run errands.

Whether you attended the recent training or not, if you are both interested and ready to volunteer--please contact Rev. Scott Uzzel at 404-861-9025 or his email: suzzel@voyagerhospicecare.com.

Scott is willing to meet with you individually to provide training and to help to process the paperwork.
