"A new flame was lit."

From The Reverend Charles L Fischer III
Associate Rector

The church was packed with worshipers at St. Paul's on Easter Sunday morning.  Women in hats and children in their Easter outfits let us all know that it was a special day.  The beauty and the pageantry of the service were extraordinary.  Flowers and polished brass adorned the sanctuary.  The choir sang, the musicians played, and the Word was proclaimed.

In the morning darkness, a crowd of people made their way to the church in anticipation of something great.  And when we saw the sun rise from behind the altar, we knew that a new day had begun.

For many this was confirmation that the promise of our Lord's resurrection is true.  A new light shined down upon us.   We who witnessed this wondrous event had our faces kissed by God and a dwindling flame was rekindled within each and every one of us.

Easter is not a moment found along the timeline of history.   It is more than an annual event.  It is the day that we are again made aware that the Lord has risen.

God reminds us that Jesus did not die but that He lives.  We now have the responsibility to share His light, a light of a new beginning and of hope.

Alleluia. Christ is risen.  The Lord is risen indeed.  Alleluia.
