"...you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in."
Isaiah 58.12
Making Repairs
We are getting ready for Christmas both at the church and at our homes. Decorations are going up and there's some Christmas cleaning to be done. There are also some repairs that need to happen. Use over the years have left some items damaged and in need of repair. Regular wear and tear has taken its toll.
We could think of Christmas like that. The prophet Isaiah says that those who are anointed by God are "repairers of the breach..." That's us! God's loving outreach to us has, and is, repairing us. The breaches are those spaces we have created between us and God and us and our neighbors. As a nation and as individuals. The breaches come with disobedience. The breaches come with the neglect of our souls.
How does God repair these breaches? By sending His messengers of justice and reconciliation to fill us with God's will and words. And, ultimately, by sending Jesus to live among us with His breach filling love. Literally, filling the gaps in our life with God and with one another. Our part in God's repairing mission is to extend it and enlarge it. Having been repaired, we now partner with God to repair. This Christmas repair a relationship that is broken. Fill a gap. Make an apology. Forgive someone. Open your hand. Send a card, a text or email. Repair something for God's sake.
Thought for today: I am faithful enough to repair something for God.
Prayer for today: Direct me Lord to the repair You want me to make.

Stewardship Reflection
Every week a member of the St. Paul's congregation will share their reflection on Stewardship. Below is an excerpt from Nancy Flake Johnson's reflection. Follow the link at the end to read the full offering. My stewardship walk has been and continues to be a journey....a journey that reflects a combination of growing in my relationship with God both spiritually and financially; my devotion to and my engagement in worship; learning from the lessons of Jesus and the Word; working toward better work/life/faith balance and working at putting my priorities in proper order. It is a constant push to work hard at not taking God for granted in my life!
And I thank God for his patience and devotion to me, despite my frailties and for the opportunity to strengthen my relationship and work harder at walking the walk by stepping up my stewardship commitment! This is one of the many wonders of God. We can count on his mercy, blessings and love to be there for us even when we may not feel we deserve it. Click here to read more >
