Happy Thanksgiving from St. Paul's Episcopal Church
|
" ...give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips but in our lives...." BCP pg.101
Thanksgiving is a lifestyle. Our faithful, selfless, lives are the thanksgiving God wants. Words come and go but a committed life lived in response to the goodness of God lives forever. Jesus taught that His whole life. You and I are so very blessed, so very fortunate. Many days our most difficult decision is not if we will eat, but what will we eat!
This year as you gather at the Thanksgiving table pledge to yourself and maybe to others that all you take in will be fuel for a life of giving. That every fork full of food will serve as a reminder of how generous God is. You might even say a silent thank you each time food or drink enter your mouth. While you're at it, say a silent thank you for every pulse of your heart and for every electro-chemical connection your brain makes. Spend a day trying to say thank you for all the blessings God pours into you and you will quickly realize it's impossible. Can't be done. I guess that's why Jesus said don't worry about saying thank you every second, just forgive and share; show compassion to the hungry, the prisoner, the sick and the stranger. Just be a thank you in response to all of God's goodness.
Lord, bless the food that is before us that we might be strengthened by gratitude for your service. AMEN
Happy Thanksgiving
