"I call you by your name, I have surnamed you..."
Isaiah 45:4
The name.
No surprises, the top three surnames or last names in America are: 1. Smith, 2. Johnson, and 3. Williams. The origin of the last name Smith is an Old English name meaning metal worker. Johnson means just that: John's son. And, Williams, is just using a first name as a last name. Each name denotes distinct heritage. Each name describes a quality or gift of the named. Ultimately, all humanity is named by God. Ultimately, all of humanity's last name is Good! That's what God called everything at the beginning. But God offers a hyphen to that last name- Chosen! Because of nothing we have done or can do, God has chosen us. We have been chosen to go on a specific journey with God: the faith journey. This journey is about discovery; discovering who God is and who we are and how best to bring God glory. Here's a hint, the key is in the name. Everything is in the name! Your name is good-chosen. You are your Father's child. Thought for today: I know whose I am. Prayer for today: Lord, remind me, everyday, of the names you call me. +Rob To respond to Fr. Stewardship Reflection - A Lesson in Stewardship Courtesy of Her Kids
Every week a member of the St. Paul's congregation will share their reflection on Stewardship. Below is an excerpt from Kristin Harrison's reflection. Follow the link at the end to read the full offering.
The best way that I've found to understand my relationship with God is to put it in the context of my relationship with my kids. One of the things that I realized through that process is that parenting is an act of stewardship. By definition, stewardship is the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care. God has entrusted me and my husband with our boys. We are responsible for their care and upbringing. It seems obvious, but I never acknowledged the connection until now. I thought it would be interesting to view stewardship through my relationship with my kids.

A Call to Action for the Episcopal Churchmen

As many of you are aware, October has historically been considered as MEN'S MONTH at St. Paul's. Over the past several years, however, the organization has witnessed a decline in male participation in the men's month activities and in church activities as well. We are interested in turning this low participation around and are making an urgent plea for all male parishioners to become more involved in the planned activities of the organization and the Church.
In addition to the two (2) planned activities of the Churchmen (Men and Boy's Luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 15, and Men's Day on Oct. 16), the organization is urging all men to become involved in the many activities going on throughout the Church. These activities include, but are not limited to:
- Outreach activities;
- The Choir(s);
- Ushers;
- Visitation of the sick;
- Upkeep of the buildings and grounds;
- Children's ministries;
- Many others.
The Episcopal Churchmen is asking that all men step forward to make this a banner year for male participation in keeping with the organization's theme, which is
"ACTIVE MALE MEMBERS GROWING A CHURCH"
