Monmouth University Honors Citizens Campaign Founder

Monmouth U. Jan. 2012  Commencement Monmouth University honored The Citizens Campaign's founder Harry Pozycki with a Doctor of Humane Letters Degree for his work with the Citizens Campaign (read article). They noted Harry's achievement in leading the passage of  New Jersey's Open Public Records Act "which gives citizens access to government information so they can build constructive solutions without waiting for their elected representatives to take action." Harry Pozycki, third from left was honored by Monmouth University President Paul G. Gaffney II, along with Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren (second from left) who also received an honorary degree and gave the Commencement speech. And Monmouth University Board of Trustees Chair Robert B. Sculthorpe (far right) also participated.

  • Paterson Citizen Leaders Focus on Economic Recovery

    Tana McPherson and Elliot Rivera, a husband and wife team, stood up and became Citizen Leaders in their community. As a Citizen Journalist, Tana has been writing numerous articles published on PatersonPress.com that promote her city, by covering the artsThe couple attended the Paterson Call to Service Summit last June, and said they wanted to expand their work to include the revitalization of their beloved City.   The Citizens Campaign has been supplying its resources to support their leadership.

    To address Paterson economic recovery, Tana and Elliot have recently assembled a group of equally committed individuals, many with skills in economic development and real estate. They call themselves Revive Paterson! and have begun to meet on a bi-weekly basis to develop plans for creating a foundation for economic growth in the City.  The participants have included Mike Hall, Jovana Hall, Gene Baldechi, Christine Conforti, John Ammitzboll, Lesly Berrocal, Elsa Gavrielidou, Leslie Agard-Jones, Roberta Farber and Dennis Ross.

    The Citizens Campaign provided the group with an experienced coach, former Belmar Council President John Szeliga, who lead the downtown redevelopment of his community. Also recruited was Leonard Zax, Harvard Professor and leader of Paterson's Great Falls Restoration, to discuss how to capitalize on Paterson's new Great Falls National Park. Citizen Leader activity in Paterson has brought about many great results. Citizen Legislators have passed major cost cutting ordinances that will save the City millions and Citizen Leaders trained by The Citizens Campaign created the Paterson Environmental Commission

    Gov. Kean Speaks on Citizen Leadership

    The overwhelming success of our statewide Call to Service Summit and the local and regional Summits which followed empowered thousands of citizens to get results on issues they care about. Now The Citizens Campaign will be celebrating exemplary citizen leaders that emerged from the Call to Service at our annual dinner gala. Citizen Leadership Awards will be presented by former New Jersey Governors Byrne and Kean, NJ Verizon President Dennis Bone and President and CEO of the Rita Allen Foundation and former CEO of New Jersey Network, Elizabeth Good Christopherson.

    Read and share articleThe Citizens Campaign Chairman Harry Pozycki was published in a feature article in NJBIZ Magazine on the statewide strategy to advance  our Model Best Price Insurance law with citizens leading the way in their hometowns. The Citizens Campaign model law is slated to be voted on in Camden by the School Board and Council in mid- February. Our Best Price Insurance law has already been adopted in several cities including Perth Amboy, Paterson, and Plainfield.
