Journalism and Environmental Issues 101

Click to watch video presentation

On June 8th, the New Jersey Hyperlocal News Association held its bi-monthly meeting featuring a presentation on the Sustainable Jersey program by its co-founder Randy Solomon. Randy provided indepth information on Sustainable Jersey, so that reporters, citizen journalists, elected officials and concerned citizens  interested in providing leadership on environmental issues could take charge in their own towns. When a town government registers for the Sustainable Jersey program, they receive priority status for grants that help save communities money on energy costs and other expenses. The presentation was videotaped, please watch it now to learn more about Sustainable Jersey. Inform your community about the program as a Citizen Journalist, take the online class now and get published. Take our 30 minute

Pay It Forward. Become a Coach.
Become a coach!
Coaches helping people get results

Coaches are in demand, because they

provide the key empowerment training that helps people get results on the issues they care about. The Citizens Campaign recruits "coaches," experts in government, politics and law, to help people who need next step advice when exercising a leadership role taught in one of our classes.   Coaching is offered for free, and can be one-on-one through email or phone calls. We also organize coaching for groups of people working on a common project by conference call. The Citizens Campaign is hosting a reception for coaches on Thursday June 30th at the Raritan Yacht Club at 6:30 pm,

read about the event. If you think you have what it takes to be a coach, please RSVP to Renee Koubiadis at Renee@thecitizenscampaign.com or call her at 732-548-9798 x9. You can also contact Renee if you would like to request a coach to help you get results.

Paterson On the Move
Paterson is Answering the Call to Service
Paterson Call to Service Summit Inspires

Citizen leadership is making positive change in Paterson. Citizen efforts lead to the creation of an Environmental Commission that helped the city to qualify for certification by Sustainable Jersey, putting them on the fast track for grant funding and other support. Citizens also gained adoption of local Pay to Play Reform in Paterson, to insure against the buying of government contracts through political contributions. The Citizens Campaign hosted the Paterson Cost Cutting Forum for government, school board officials and concerned citizens teaching how they could save millions on health insurance costs. The forum resulted in citizens making a best price insurance contracting reform presentation to the city and the Paterson School District. On Friday June 17th, the Citizens Campaign organized the Paterson Call to Service Summit at St. Josephs Regional Medical Center. Over 50 citizens turned out to receive training in how to become Appointed Officials, Citizen Journalists and Citizen Legislators. The featured presenters were Paterson Mayor Jeffery Jones and Citizens Campaign Chairman Harry Pozycki. Their calls to service inspired several citizens to submit applications on the spot to serve on the city's boards and commissions, such as the Parking and Housing Authority and the Youth Guidance Counsel.  "Paterson Residents Answer the Call" was featured in the PatersonPress.com and profiles more citizen leader accomplishments in Paterson.

You Can Transform Political Parties
Party Democracy Act Panel
Experts Discuss Party Democracy Act

The Party Democracy Act, developed by the Citizens Campaign's Legal Task Force and enacted in 2009, brings the power of the political parties down to the grassroots level. The Party Democracy Act empowers local committeepeople to be able to change the party rules and control the party endorsements and platforms. The Party Democracy Act was discussed at the New Jersey Hyperlocal News Association meeting on June 8th by a panel of political experts including Harry Pozycki, former Middlesex County Democratic Chairman, Tom Moran, Star Ledger Editorial Page Editor, and Tom Wilson, former State Republican Chair. Take our  Political Party Committee Person class now and learn more about how you can transform political parties as a  grassroots level party official.
