Perth Amboy Insurance Reform Proposal Expected to Bring Major Savings to the City's School District

Empowering citizens to constructively participate in the leadership of government is the objective of the Jersey Call to Service, and citizens are making a difference, especially in the area of government waste cutting and cost savings.  Citizen Leaders are presenting "Ready for Adoption" ordinances to control the costs of local government and school boards.

Recently Cherry Hill adopted a cost savings proposal presented by Citizen Leader Robert Shinn which resulted in the Cherry Hill School District saving $6 million by switching their employee health coverage to the State Health Insurance Plan.

Perth Amboy resident Maria Garcia presents an insurance reform proposal.

Perth Amboy Citizen Leaders presented a similar proposal this week to the Perth Amboy School Board. Maria Garcia, accompanied by Lou Vargas, Harry Pozycki, Caroline Pozycki, and Olive Bryan presented a model resolution that requires municipal or school district administrators to seek a minimum of 3 bids for insurance, including bids from the State Health Insurance Plan, County Joint Insurance Fund, and the NJ School Boards Association Insurance Group, among others.

Citizens' Campaign Chairman Harry Pozycki, also a Perth Amboy resident, said. "Our Legal Task Force took Bob Shinn's idea and created a "ready to adopt" model which citizens can use in towns across the State." The Perth Amboy proposal is expected to bring major savings to the City's School District.

In the next weeks, presentations of cost savings proposals will be made in Hackettstown and Springlake Heights. If you are interested in making a cost savings proposal in your town, please contact Heather Taylor at 732-548-9798 x1 or Heather@jointhecampaign.com.

Next Steps Conference Supports New Leaders
Take the Next Step and Get Involved Learn How
Citizen Leaders learning from coaches

The Citizen Leader "Next Steps" Conference was hosted by Johnson & Johnson and held at their headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ. 200 people came out to get support in participating as a leader in their community.

It was a wonderful evening that started with delicious food and drinks. Then panelists presented the audience with insider tips on how to be successful.

Getting involved by attending board, commission or committee meetings and introducing yourself to the leaders there was recommended as the first step. "It's not who you know but who knows you" said panelist Alysia Welsh-Chester, a Citizen Leader and political party coach from Trenton, NJ. Also discussed was the power of the no blame approach, which is a technique that helps to focus elected officials on proposals. After the panel, coaches met individually with the new citizen leaders and offered them guidance and addressed specific issues. Are you ready to get involved? Use the online Participation Guide to support your effort. For more support you can Request a Coach from Aneil at 732-548-9798x3 or aneil@jointhecampaign.com.
