South Jerseyans Can Make A Difference
Op-Ed Published in the Courier Post Sept 5th by Harry Pozycki, Citizens' Campaign Chair and Sidney Hargro, Executive Director South Jersey Community Foundation. September 5th, 2010

New Jerseyans are quickly recognizing that business as usual won't cut it anymore and it is time to take responsibility for the future of our state and our communities. A poll conducted by Monmouth University in 2008 found that nearly six in 10 New Jersey residents believe that being a good citizen means having some special obligations. Similarly, nearly two in three New Jersey residents feel it is important for them to be active in their communities. Which is why citizens from across the state are answering the "Jersey Call to Service," a non-partisan movement to participate in the leadership our communities and build a culture of service. Citizen Leader Profile

StaciStaci Greenberg, Citizens' Campaign Volunteer Greenberg, a professional interior designer, attended the June 9th Jersey Call to Service Summit in New Brunswick. At the Summit, she learned how she could become a leader in her community by gaining an appointed office position. She was inspired and took the next step, and applied for and was appointed to the Mantua Township Environmental Commission. She didn't stop there. She called the Citizens' Campaign and volunteered to use her skills as a radio host and podcast producer to help create a podcast to promote the Jersey Call to Service. If you attended the June 9th Summit and want support in getting a leadership role in your community, register for the Next Steps Conference on Oct 5th in New Brunswick at the Johnson & Johnson Headquarters (read more). September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance
September 11 is a day when we can take the time to remember those Americans who lost their lives at the World Trade Center but also remember the great service performed by all those who responded to the emergency.  One way we can honor those who risked their lives is also to recognize September 11 as the National Day of Service and Remembrance and to make an individual commitment to engage in citizen service and make our country strong.
