Mayor Launches a Call to Service in Orange |

Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr. signed an Executive Order Tuesday April 13th, launching Orange's Call to Service at a press conference and ceremony at City Hall. The Mayor announced an Orange Call to Service Summit scheduled for Wednesday May 19th. Harry Pozycki, the Citizens' Campaign Chair, commended Mayor Hawkins and the City of Orange for 'Answering the Call.' Mayor Hawkins has been calling citizens to serve by publicizing service opportunities through newspaper stories, website postings, and the city's new email newsletter. Law and Policy Task Force Unveils 10 Model School District Cost Savings Proposals Ready For Adoption |
The Citizens' Campaign's Law and Policy Task Force, which has dedicated itself to producing "Ready for Adoption" cost savings proposals that citizens can present to their local governments, met on March 23rd at Rutgers University. The meeting produced 10 new
Freeholder Jim Polos | proposals that deal specifically with school district budget savings. A
Nicole Okun | guest speaker at the meeting was Middlesex County Freeholder Jim Polos who discussed how Middlesex County government has fostered shared services with other county governments and agencies and with municipalities and school districts. Guest speaker Nicole Okun, former Superintendent of Schools for Old Bridge, presented several opportunities for school budget savings through school districts collaborating with town governments and other school districts. This is a "not to be missed" event and you're invited! Answer the Jersey Call to
Service at the free Jersey Call to Service Summit on Wednesday June 9th at the Douglass College Campus in New Brunswick, NJ. Sign in is from 5:15 to 5:40 pm. Pre-registration necessary.
 Come and spend a couple of hours enjoying cocktails and mingling with governors and civic minded sports celebrities, and business leaders. In the course of the evening, learn how to reduce wasteful spending and be empowered to participate in leadership positions in your community.

Citizen Idea Accepted by Law and Policy Task Force |

Robert answered the Call. He took the online Citizen Legislator Class and submitted his cost savings ideas in the Forum. His idea to help school districts save money by joining an Energy Consortium got him invited to the March meeting of the Law and Policy Task Force, where he presented his idea to government and policy experts. His idea was accepted and our lawyers developed it into a "Ready for Adoption" Model Cost Savings Proposal. Start participating! Submit your best cost savings ideas in the Cost Savings Forum.
