Citizens' Campaign Kick Off of Local Cost Cutting Initiative
 Captures New Jersey's Attention

"ready for adoption" local cost cutting proposals presentation
The Citizens'Campaign began the New Year with a State House Press Conference (watch video) to announce our menu of "ready for adoption" local government cost cutting proposals that citizens can present for adoption in their own hometowns. We received important news coverage from ABC, NJN News, NJ 101.5 FM and the Star Ledger among many others.
Chairman Harry Pozycki (pictured in the video with Tom Byrne) was also a Guest Columnist for the Star Ledger and published the article Property Taxes: How NJ Citizens Can Take Up the Fight.

Citizens and groups across the state have enthusiastically embraced the idea of providing leadership on local government cost cutting.  Groups have been requesting speaking engagements and citizens have been joining online to get access to the model cost cutting ordinances.

Byrne and Daggett new Co-Chairs of the Local Gov Cost Cutting InitiativeThe announcement of Co-Chairs Tom Byrne, Chair of the New Jersey Tax and Fiscal Policy Study Commission, and Chris Daggett, 2009 Independent Gubernatorial Candidate, to lead the Citizens' Campaigns Local Government Cost Cutting Initiative was also well received. More and more people are finding out about the Citizens' Campaign and our Jersey Call to Service, which inspires citizens to participate in the leadership of their communities and provides them with the tools to lead.

The Citizens' Campaign rolled out a menu of 10 model proposals which citizens can present for adoption on the local level to tackle the property tax crisis by reducing costs in municipal government.  This menu is available under "Local Cost Cutting Measures" on our website.  Citizens can learn how to successfully present these model laws for adoption in their own hometowns with the education, support and free coaching offered by the Citizens' Campaign. Fill out the join application to receive these benefits.

Want to learn more? Come to the upcoming South Jersey Call to Service Summit on Friday evening February 5th. Citizens Across the State Are Activating Their Communities with A Hometown Call to Service
The Hometown Call to Service allows citizens to invite members of their community to answer the Jersey Call to Service. With the support of local government and organizations, and the Citizens' Campaign, people can begin to participate in the leadership of their own communities by taking the class in Appointed Office Service (read class description). The pool of leadership potential in NJ is great, and largely untapped. Citizens participation is a resource that can greatly benefit a community. The recent signing into law of our "Citizen Service Act" on Oct 19, 2009 augments the Hometown Call to Service.

Citizen Leader Profile

Inspired by the
Edison Hometown Call to Service which resulted in dozens of residents committing to take part in the leadership of their town, Old Bridge resident Linda Seiler wanted to spearhead the same initiative in her community. She presented the idea to her township council. Speaking at the council meeting Linda said, "There are so many residents who don't know how to become involved in township government. This is an opportunity for them to participate, to serve and to lead, even if they only have a few hours a month to give." We couldn't have put it any better. Follow Linda's lead and bring a Call to Service to your hometown!

Listen to The Citizens' Campaign
New Jersey has an idea factory for vibrant civic engagement and good government. They're about clean, fair politics, and they have the sharpest tools in the toolbox to get us there. They don't work for you - and that's good - but they have all the answers. Same suggestion, by the way, for my GOP brothers and sisters.-Rosi Efthim, Blue Jersey Blogger
