Flu Update #9
March 19, 2010

Influenza-like illness in the Newton Public Schools remains low. However, health officials caution a third wave of H1N1 could occur in the future.

It's not too late to get vaccinated! The health department has both H1N1 and seasonal influenza vaccine available for people of all ages. Children under age 10 need two doses of H1N1 vaccine. Call the health department at 617-796-1420 to make an appointment with a public health nurse to be vaccinated.

Help us by completing a survey!
The Health & Human Services Department is reviewing the H1N1 vaccination experience to learn from the process. The information will be used to inform planning for possible school-based flu vaccination in the future. To help, please complete a short survey about your child's experience. This survey is open to all Newton Public Schools parents, whether or not your children were vaccinated for H1N1 at their school. It's particularly important to hear from both parents of children who were vaccinated at school and those who were not vaccinated at school. Please click on this link by Friday, April 2, to complete the survey. Thank you for your help.

Remember to wash your hands, cover your cough and stay home if you are sick!

Relay for Life

Would someone be interested in organizing a Day team for the Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society?

The Newton-Brookline Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society is being held at Forte Park in Nonantum on May 22-23, 2010.  Last year only Mason-Rice and Angier Schools had teams of walkers participate. The entire event only had 10 teams participate but raised over $30,000!

Please contact Gina Healy if you are interested in helping lead a Day team.

Warmly,
