Dear Day families,

Thanks to all those parents who attended the the informational meeting on the principal hiring process earlier this week.
 
As we outlined in our previous email, one of the ways for parent involvement is on the Selection Advisory Committee (SAC), which includes Day staff members, support staff, a middle school principal, and Deputy Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and the Assistant Director for Human Resources. To sum up, this committee develops interview questions, review and rate resumes, interview semifinalists, and suggest finalists; some members of the committee visit finalists' schools.

If you would like to serve on the SAC, please double check that you are available on the days the SAC meets as described in the time line below. Then, send an email to Day PTO Co-Presidents TODAY by  5:00 PM.

Please include a candidate statement up to 300 words, addressing your experience and how you will represent Day school community-at-large on this committee. If necessary, an election using online voting will be held to select the parent representatives. We realize the time frame is tight, but we need to submit names to Gil Lawrence on March 15th. No member of the PTO board is eligible to participate on the SAC.
 
We encourage parents representing SPED, ELL, and METCO communities to take advantage of this opportunity and be part of this process. If your child is a member of one of those communities and if you feel comfortable doing so, please indicate that in your email.
 
Please keep the time commitment, confidentiality of the process, and responsibility of representing Day School as a whole in mind when considering serving on the SAC. 

We hope that all parents complete the parent survey regarding the role of our new principal. It was sent yesterday.  It is anonymous, and the comments go to Gil Lawrence. The deadline for completing the survey is Monday March 15th, so please, fill it out soon!

  • March 9: Informational meeting with Day faculty (3:30 PM)
  • March 9: Informational meeting with Day parents (Day auditorium, 7 PM)

  • March 31- April 5: SAC members review resumes during this period
  • April 5: SAC members return rating sheets to HR Office
  • April 6: SAC members meet in Ed. Center, Room 304, select 8-10 candidates for semifinalist interviews (3:30-6 PM)
  • SAC interviews semifinalists and selects 3-4 finalists:
    • April 12 (8:00 AM -5:00 PM ) Ed. Center, Room 210
    • April 13 (8:00 AM-5:00 PM) Ed. Center, Room 210
    • April 15 (11:00 AM-5:00 PM) Ed. Center, Room 210
  • April 26 - April 30 Finalists visit Day Middle School
  • April 26 - April 30 Newton teams (from SAC) visit finalists' schools
  • April 26 - April 30 Superintendent interviews finalists and checks references
  • May 12: Superintendent will appoint new principal
