Letter from Dr. Marini re: Principal Search and Time line |
|
Dear Day families --
This afternoon Archana, Phyllis, and I received a request to forward a letter to you from Dr. Marini regarding the principal selection process for Day. It lays out the time line and describes the Selection Advisory Committee.
Normally, one of us would format everything nicely and make this newsletter look very spiffy, but in the interest of time, the letter is simply uploaded to our website. We wanted to get this out to you ASAP!
Please see the letter for details, but especially note that you are invited to a parent information meeting about the principal selection process next Tuesday March 9th at 7pm in the Day library.
If you have any difficulty with the link, please let us know. If you know a Day parent who does not receive these type of PTO emails, please consider forwarding this to them.
-- Susan, Archana, & Phyllis

The Teen Brain and Today's Chemical Culture Thursday March 4, 7pm
On March 4 at 7 p.m. in Brookline High School's Roberts/Dubbs Auditorium, the Brookline Public Health Department co-sponsors a special evening of information, insight and discussion for parents and teens that examines "The Teen Brain and Today's Chemical Culture." Recent brain studies show that judgment, impulse control and decision-making abilities don't fully mature until the early 20's. Given the recent explosion of prescription and over-the-counter medications and a culture in which teen alcohol consumption is rampant, this research suggests today's youth are particularly vulnerable to the "a pill or drink will make it better" culture. Understanding some of the intricacies and landmarks of adolescent brain development in the context of today's complex world can aid parents in helping their teens avoid risky decision-making that can lead to dangerous patterns of behavior. The keynote speaker is Marisa M. Silveri, Ph.D. Other participants include Kitty Dukakis, Danielle Smith, Brookline Peer Leaders, Laura Hester and Ryan Travia.
