Dear Families, As part of our efforts to provide additional math and language arts skill work, each student at Day has received a license to use Study Island at school and at home. Study Island is a website on the internet that gives students lots of self-paced, fun, and helpful practice in math skills and language arts skills that are matched to our curriculum and the state curriculum frameworks. All Math classes have visited the computer lab to learn how to use this site and English classes are scheduling their orientation during the next few weeks. Students are encouraged to start using Study Island at home for extra practice. Please find directions for how to log on to the site below.. The site is easy and fun to use. Some of its features include: A pretest for students to identify their areas of strength and weakness, skills development in areas such as fractions, factorization, data analysis, sentence structure, word roots, and much more. Games are built in for motivation or students may answer questions in test mode or on a work sheet. The level of difficulty can be adjusted up or down to a different middle school grade level if needed. Study Island gives explanations of incorrect answers, and continues to provide similar types of questions for each wrong answer. Some teachers are using this program with their classes, and we strongly encourage students to practice designated modules at home on their own. Because it is available online, it is a great tool for students to use after school or during vacations and on weekends. Students may work on their own at school in the Library or Emac lab before or after school. Please encourage your child or children to take full advantage of it. Getting Started: 1. Go to www.studyisland.com 2. Type your username (the Student ID on your schedule or lunch card) 3. Type your password (same student ID, above) 4. Submit Should you have questions or need technical assistance with this program, click on the HELP link at the top of the Study Island Website. Here you will find online help, manuals, 800 numbers, etc.
Sincerely,
Gina Healy
