Magazine Drive Fundraiser

On Wednesday, October 14 we will kick off our 2009 - 2010 Magazine Drive.  The Magazine Drive is one of our most successful fundraisers and provides financial support for technology purchases and funding of the Creative Arts and Sciences programs - this benefits all our middle school students!

Students will be coming home with booklets that require names and addresses of potential subscribers.  Please encourage/assist your student to complete the booklet and return it to school as soon as possible.

As always, you can also renew any of your magazine subscriptions through this program.  You can easily do this online at www.qsp.com. Please use code 425024646 for Day Middle School.

Thank you for your continued support.

Staying connected...

Meet Interim School Superintendent James Marini
All members of the community are invited to an evening session to meet and hear from Interim Superintendent, Dr. James Marini. Dr. Marini will speak about the state of the schools and his experience in Newton thus far, followed by a session allowing for questions and answers.

Wednesday, October 21st
7:30 - 9:00 PM
Day Middle School Auditorium

Be aware that parking around the school itself is limited. There is plenty of parking along Albemarle Road near the Gath Pool -- you can then follow the path across the field to walk to the school. The parking lot behind the Ed Center also has lots of spaces and a short walk to the school.

Deaf Awareness Day - October 22nd
See the World Through Deaf Eyes!

The F.A. Day School is hosting an all-day event focusing on seeing the world through Deaf eyes.

The day will include hands-on visual games, performances by Deaf
storytellers, visiting vendors that represent the Deaf Community - MassRelay, Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Canines for Kids, Sorenson Communications, Childrens Hospital and others - as well as a wonderful group of Deaf and hearing professionals who are willing to share their stories and experiences.

Myths will be busted!
Hands will be in motion!
Eyes will be opened!

Deaf Awareness Day will take place on our first half day, October 22, from 8 a.m. until dismissal at 11:30.

All staff and students at F.A. Day will have the opportunity to visit a variety of exhibits and take part in activities presented with visual learning as the focus.  As we learn more about the Deaf Community, our goal is for our students to become more visual thinkers and to celebrate the diversity of the Day community.

This is a day where we take the time to see the world through Deaf eyes!

Day Middle School Directory

This is the time of year when some parents start wondering about when they will see a school directory.    The directory committee is feverishly working on the finishing touches of this year's edition and will have it available as soon as possible.   That said, we'd like to remind everyone about a few things...

The PTO provides one free directory to all 6th grade families and other families new to Day M.S.   If you do not fall into that category OR are a returning family OR you are a 6th grade/new family and would like a 2nd copy, you must sign up with the PTO and pay $10 for each copy.   Since we need to order a specific number of directories your order must be placed, and paid for, in advance.  We usually do not have extra copies available once our supply has been distributed.

A link to the directory form can be found on the Day PTO website www.daypto.org.  (Directories can be paid for via PayPal.)  Forms will also be available in the library during Parent Visiting Days or you can send the form to us either by dropping it off at the school's main office or mailing it to the school.    Please do not delay putting in your order as we will be sending the directory to the printer very soon.

Warmly,

Archana Vahalia, Susan Cassidy, & Phyllis Attisano
