Dear Families,
I am writing to let you know about a disturbing incident that took place on Friday afternoon at 4:15 as students were waiting for the late bus.  One of our students took a BB gun from his bag and shot four other students before running off.  Fortunately, none of those students was seriously injured, but the entire incident was upsetting to the four who were shot and to those students who witnessed the shooting. The Newton Police responded to the scene, and ultimately confiscated the BB gun at the home of the child who had brought it to school.  Of course, there will be serious school and legal consequences.

The safety and well-being of all students at Day is of paramount importance, and we want children to feel secure in their school environment.  We are doing all we can to foster a healthy and safe environment and to respond appropriately when our sense of security is threatened. If your child would like to speak to someone at school about this incident, s/he should contact her/his guidance counselor or other trusted adult.

Sincerely,

Gina Healy
